AD HOC COMMITTEE MEMBERS ON PORTS' DECONGESTION AND RESTORATION WOUND DOWN ITS TOUR OF PORT LOCATIONS

Today, the House of Representatives Adhoc Committee on ports decongestion and restoration wound down its tour of locations. The 14-man committee which has Hon Baba Yusuf Yakub as the chairman was at Onitsha River Port to see things for themselves. At the public hearing which was held at the hall of the All Saints Cathedral Complex, Onitsha, after the tour of the facility by the members had the heads of many agencies and stakeholders in attendance. Among the agencies invited to make contributions on the way forward were National Inland Waterways (NIWA), Nigerian Shippers' Council, Customs and Excise, Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Trader Association (ASMATA), Importers' Association, and the representatives of Anambra State Government etc. They all agreed to the importance of a decentralized port system in Nigeria and called for immediate resuscitation of the Onitsha River Port as well as the other Eastern Ports.

Recall that the tour of the ports which began on the 15th day of September, 2019, beginning with the Lagos ports through Warri, Onne, Port Harcourt, Calabar and Onitsha was triggered by the motion sponsored by the member representing Idemili North and South in the National Assembly, Hon. Ifeanyichukwu Anthony Ibezi. Ibezi had in that motion argued the need to decongest the Lagos ports and restore the use of the eastern ports in order to get the economy back on track.

In his remarks, the chairman of the Committee while thanking contributors, stated that there might never be a better motion than the Decongestion and Restoration Motion sponsored by Honourable Ibezi.

Other members of the Committee are
Hon. Ifeanyi Ibezi, Hon. Makama Missau Ibrahim, Hon. Onuh Blessing Onyeche, Hon. Haruna Maitala, Hon. Victor Amela, Hon. Nuhu Yakubu Danja, Hon. Aliyu Ibrahim Almustapha, Hon. Alex Egbona, Hon. Akiolu Moshood Kayode, Hon. Kolade Victor Akinjo, Hon. Olayide Adewale Akinremi, Hon. Kalu Benjamin Okezie and Hon. Suny Goli Isreal.
The Committee later departed for Awka preparatory to their return to Abuja.

The 5 Southeast governors need to come together and complete this port for Pete's sake and stop blaming everyone else for their inertia.

Lagos (with the support of private investors) is building a port at Lekki. When completed, it'll be the largest and most automated in sub-Saharan Africa. Don't blame Lagos and the FG when all port activities are directed to Lekki Port in a few years.

Let the government dredge the river Niger and reduce the pressure on our roads. The average Onitsha business man will simply import his goods through the sea and minimise risk taken on the road.
Now the South South, South East and some part of the North will buy good at lesser cost from Onitsha.

If you’ve ever experienced having dry, hard, cracked and callused heels, you know what a hassle they can be. It’s unsightly so you only allow yourself to wear footwear that hides them. It can be so hard and dry that you feel embarrassed to let anyone come into contact with your feet—so romantic foot massages are a definite no-no for you.
