Messi won the award for the best men player in Milan on Monday after garnering the most votes from international captains, coaches, fans and journalists from the media.

An interesting part of the voting process were the revelation of the players the 3 finalist voted for, being captains of their respective teams.

The rules of the voting process demands that no player can vote for himself and must choose three players perceived to be deserving of the award with the first choice garnering 5 points and the second and third claiming 3 and 1 points respectively.

while slightly mixed reactions followed the argentine win, football fans over the globe made their choice by overwhelmingly voting for the little magician with the talisman clinching 52 percent of the crowd votes leaving van dijk and ronaldo to share the remaining 48 percent.
