May the altars of our fathers
Forgive our trespasses
The colonizers transported their bodies
And left behind their souls

The schools are ovens where minds are cooked
The meal was tainted with the Gospel and Quran
all that was African was taken out.

the broken had no history, their stories were gone,
we are but images of the past
Our past was overwritten
David became our hero,
Solomon our wisest man
Our stories had no Africans
Except he who met Phillip

Our bodies are temporary containers
for what some call the soul
are you your brain is your brain you?
Unanswered questions that torment the soul

Who determined how long a second lasts?
How do our phones always know what time is it?
Does the german experience time like the Yoruba?
Did the Igbo man count time before jesus?

Can a mind roam? Be set free from the identity the world it's born in gives it,
Son of abraham, Son of isaac
dark African with no history
bow to this cross before you,
become a new creature, you infidel

The mind's been cursed and abused for centuries,
mount zion films laid the foundation,
filling the heart with strange myths and stories,
fear took over the minds, African religion became disgusting to Africans,
full of witches, blood-suckers, and evil doings..

Be saved, be saved, through jesus,
He's the way, the salvation, the truth
The lions turned to sheep
Became flock for greedy men
They fed them on poison laced with a little Jesus
Taught them a new culture and God,
taught them to clap and dance,
to belive in shit like 'first-fruit' and 'tithe'

In their ignorance, they transported Israel's past traditions
they called them chosen, redeemed, saved, raptured
they told them they were special
uniquely loved by God
if only they'd kneel at the name of jesus,
if only they kept kneeling at the name of jesus

and so they are in church today,
clapping and singing,
sharing tales of kidnap and kidnappings
saying 'all is well' when all hasn't been for a long time

It is said where God is, there you will find love,
Love is contentment, in time of plenty, and in time of little,
Love is truth, naked, pure, as bold as it is warm

Love is joy, happiness, and peace, like good groundnut and garri on a cool evening..

Love is sharing with your neighbor, not just gossip, but good meals, good stories, real smiles not made-up faces

Love encourages the poor, the down-trodden, it says 'you can make it, you will make it, keep going', and then gives a helping hand.

Love is sacrifice, loss of a part, a gift from one to another. To go out of one's way to help another, because we are.
Love doesn't seek pleasure in hurt, is compassionate, gentle, kind.

Where did our love go?
