This is a major highway connecting the north to the south western part of Nigeria.

Over ther last three weeks I have received calls and seen photos of how terrible the road has become.

The popular Abuja-Lagos highway passing through Lampese, a rural and semi linear settlement in Akoko-Edo LGA, Edo state has become a nightmare for travellers.

Local economic activities have been hindered due to the deplorable state of the roads. Travellers have stayed stranded for days with harrowing experience just to navigate through the long stretch of faded portions.

This road was last reconstructed during the era of the late General Sanni Abacha between 1997/1998 under the then Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) headed by Major General Muhammadu Buhari now democratically elected President of Nigeria.

Over 20 years down memory lane, the road has become a shadow of itself seeking urgent attention from the government and all concerned authorities.

A cry for help for the people of Lampese and the adjoining communities whose economic activities have been trapped. Farmers are not able to move their produce to the market places.

A cry for help for all road users, the traders who buy and sell between the north and south west, a cry for help for companies (manufacturers) who have there value chain along this route.

This and many other federal roads in Edo state and other parts of the country needs urgent Federal Government's attention.
