Civil Liberties Organization (CLO) has urged President Buhari and the National Assembly to abolish the Big Brother Naija reality TV show.

According to the organization, the reality TV show has no benefit in the transformation and talent discovery in Nigeria.

A statement issued by the chairman of the Anambra state chapter, Vincent Ezekwueme, also called on religious leaders and moralist to speak against the evils in the society.

CLO stated that their call is quite timely towards the protection of national interest, morality and the future of Nigerian youths.

Ezekwueme said, “The show has painful, shameful, negative and devastating impact on our youths, culture and society. Wealth without wisdom is one of the worst blunders of the world.

“The Minister for Information and Culture should constitute men of impeccable integrity to unravel if the show is in tandem with culture, traditions and believe of Nigeria in order to restore morality, core value system and good orientation.”

The Big Brother Naija reality TV show ended on Sunday, 6th of October with Mercy emerging winner.

She went home with the prize money of N60million, an SUV and tickets to travel abroad.

Big Brother (BB) exists in other countries mostly 1st & 2nd world countries but I'm simply puzzled at how our Nigerian (3rd world country) politicians make something else their priorities which its never the top 5 of Nigeria's problem!

1. No sexual contents
2. Organizers of the show shoud set aside #100M as awards to three best students in waec in each state of federation
3. Organizers of the show shoud set aside #100M as awards to three best students in each university in the country.
4. Organizers of the show shoud set aside #300M as health trust fund.

In as much as I am not a fan of Big Brother show due to its poor educational value and high immorality content, I am CONFUSED about this call for its abolition coming from Civil Liberties Organization.

If you ponder over the two words 'Civil Liberties', you will appreciate my CONFUSION. Ordinarily organizations like CAN and MURIC should be calling for abolition of BB show while organizations like CLO would be opposing on ground that every Nigerian is at liberty to do any lawful business including reality shows.

Well i have not even watch it before. Even i don't have time to watch movies talk on bbnija. But not withstanding There's no how this show affect anyone if your children below 17 years warn your own.

If they move the show back to South Africa, and then show it on one of their cable channels with an adult rating. Will the government be able to ban it.

I am not particularly fond of BBnaija or any other BB for that matter, but I understand we are living in a free secular democracy. There are Christian, Muslim, educative, sports, business, etc programmes. You are free to watch what appeals to you. The programmes are governed by broadcast laws and codes. As long as programmes remain within the extant laws, then government has no business with the programmes.
If a particular program run foul of the broadcast code, then write a petition to the NBC, highlighting such infringements, citing relevant chapters and sections. NBC is the only parastatal with the powers to sanction radio and TV stations registered in Nigeria.

I hate Big Brother but I don't think the show is Nigerias problem if anything it's currently the best chance Nigerians youth have at escaping poverty ..CLO should instead use their voice to tell the govt to banish bad roads and lack of electricity

This CLO is really a cloned organization. If you don't like the show, why not quietly face your front and continue to be a directionless, clueless, vissionless and meaningless organization. Is this CLO jealoused of BBN millionaires? of what impact has this useless CLO created in the Nigerian society? You are even talking of morality as a basis to ban the show, what about many churches where morality is no longer a norm? so they should ban church in Nigeria? Okay, what about Nigerian movies where we watch a lot of silly actions, should the industry also be banned? Have they also been watching American movies? where their actions are as raw as every thing.
CLO should concern themselves with serious issues militating against the survival of the common man in the society instead of silly calls over what is successfully turning many Nigerians to millionaire's. I am yet to see any thing wrong With BBN. At least I followed the show this year and couldn't see any thing wrong with it.

The show is rated 18. It means it allows certain degree of sexual expression, violence, Strong language and adult themes. If you say that no sexual content whatsoever should be allowed, then you must also insist that all 18 rated movies and programs must also be banned.

Multichoice, owners of BBNAIJA is a business, it pays relevant taxes to states and local government. It is not a charity organisation. If you want to burden multichoice with charity work, then you must burden all other companies including telecom companies, banks and manufacturing companies with charity obligations also.
