I watched the Henderson guy in an England U 21 friendly against Norway last week. Nothing out of the ordinary. I hope Kenny knows what he's doing. . . No average players again o |

Wonder why they call him the new Gerrard. We'll keep hoping he proves his worth. David N'gog on his way to Sunderland for £5m. It'll reduce the amount spent on a 'potential' like Henderson |

Liverpool target Serie A defender in £14m deal Udinese defender Cristian Zapata claims he is prepared to snub Arsenal and Manchester City to join Liverpool. The Colombia centre-back says he is close to agreeing a move to Anfield and will complete his switch after this summer's Copa America tournament. The Reds have turned to Zapata - who can play any where along the back four - after losing out to Manchester United in the race for their top target, Blackburn's Phil Jones. Liverpool have yet to agree a fee with Udinese and the Serie A side will want at least £14million for Zapata, who has two years left on his contract. The 24-year-old, who is also wanted by Bayern Munich, is in South America preparing for next month's Copa America in Argentina. He says he is excited by the prospect of joining Liverpool. "I don't know what to say," he said. "What I can say is that I am very close to Liverpool. "At the end of the Copa America, we will see what happens with my future. "I have gained experience, but the time has come for me to make the jump to a big team." |

Just saw the Liverpool friendly match. Ended 4-3 to the reds. Adam was good, so were Aquilani and Carrol. But the stand-out performers were Flanagan, Joe Cole and Robinson. Conceded two stoppage time goals due to terrible defending by Andre Wisdom and Agger. Early days though. Raul M, Gerrard, Glen Johnson, Lucas, Aurelio, Suarez, Skrtel and Reina were absent. Can't wait for Saturday's match. Should have Meireles back for that. |

McCoy91:Jose Enrique may not come 2 LFC. He's in Search of Champions League Football. Between Baines and Cissoko, I prefer Baines cause of his experience and he's been consistent over years. But moving from Everton to LFC is d main issue. I'm sure he'll move if we make d right offer. |

Liverpool sign Downing Liverpool have signed Stewart Downing from Aston Villa after the England winger agreed a "long-term deal", the Anfield club said. Downing, 26, was Villa's 2010-11 player of the season and is understood to have cost in the region of £20 million, although no fee was disclosed by the Reds. "The winger, who has 27 England caps, put his signature on a long-term deal after passing a medical," Liverpool said on their website. "Downing is the club's fourth major signing of the summer following Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Alexander Doni." The former Middlesbrough wide-man hit seven Premier League goals last season and created 11 more in a side that struggled for much of the campaign. "It's a great feeling and I'm very happy to be here. It's been a long time coming and I've had to wait a few weeks, but I'm really pleased to be here," Downing told the club's website. "With the tradition, the manager and the players they have here, there was a big temptation to come here and once I knew of their interest, there was only one place I wanted to go. "It will be a great feeling to run out at Anfield. It's always nice to come and play here. The atmosphere is always great and the fans are brilliant. "When I wanted to come to Liverpool, it was the first thing I thought of - playing at Anfield in front of those great fans. I'm really looking forward to it." Villa are set to replace Downing with Wigan winger Charles N'Zogbia after submitting a bit just below his £10m asking price. Liverpool vice-captain Jamie Carragher expressed his delight at the coup. "It's a terrific signing, there's no doubt about that whatsoever," he said. "He's been a top player in the Premier League for the last six or seven years and he will definitely make a difference, with his ability to go outside and down the line to get quality crosses in. "I know him, so does (skipper Steven Gerrard); he knows Andy Carroll and (Glen Johnson) from playing for England, so he is not going to be walking into a dressing room and be on his own. He will get a great welcome because he's a good lad and a top player as well. "He was Aston Villa's player of the year and he will give us something that we have been lacking, genuine quality on the left hand side. Every team looking to compete needs quality players in each position and that is what we are getting back towards." The deal takes Liverpool's estimated summer spending to around £50 million. http://m.eurosport.com/football/liverpool-sign-downing_sto2873114/m-story.shtml |

Re: Liverpool FC Fan Zone: Champions of England by McCoy91(m): 12:58pm On Jul 16, 2011 |
Downing is a decent signing but it will break my heart to see Aston Villa sign N'Zogbia for half the amount we signed him. Both are virtually the same kinda players but N'Zogbia is two years younger. |
Re: Liverpool FC Fan Zone: Champions of England by tocdee(m): 3:21pm On Jul 16, 2011 |
I disagree. Downing and Nzogbia aren't similar players. Liverpool needs; 1. English players to fill up the homegrown quota plan which takes effect this season 2. A good crosser of the ball to pick out Carroll (Nzogbia's not) 3. An out and out winger who hugs the line and doesn't cut in too much (Nzogbia cuts in a lot like Maxi, Kuyt, Suarez, Joe Cole and Gerrard) Nzogbia is better at dribbling and is more powerful than Downing in footballing terms but his temperament leaves a lot to be desired and he doesn't possess the REQUIRED skill set needed currently and urgently. By the way, did anyone else see the match today? Ended 6-3 to the reds vs Malaysia 11. Aquilani was AWESOME and Charlie Adam was great too! Carroll had a terrible game while Ngog was classy. Meireles was too rusty while Kuyt was sharp. Early days; bring on Hull! |
Re: Liverpool FC Fan Zone: Champions of England by Nobody: 7:08pm On Jul 16, 2011 |
From the Stats I saw somewhere, I read dat Downing made d highest number of Completed crosses last season (Carroll must be smiling) Henderson created more scoring chances than any other midfielder last season (dunno how true dat is) I'M SURE KING KENNY KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING. |
Re: Liverpool FC Fan Zone: Champions of England by Nobody: 7:30pm On Jul 16, 2011 |
On Downing and N'zogbia I prefer Downing cos He's a better crosser and he'll be more efficient. He may not have the Skills of N'zogbia but He'll surely deliver more crosses than N'zogbia. Downing is also good at tracking back. With a player like Downing, Whoever is at the Left full back will have less to worry about. From, what I've known about N'zogbia, I doubt if he's good at tracking back. All in all, I believe Downing is better and dat's exactly what liverpool needs, atleast for now. |
Re: Liverpool FC Fan Zone: Champions of England by tocdee(m): 8:20pm On Jul 16, 2011 |
@ alekside, Yeah Downing had the record number of crosses last season (and pretty quality ones too). Henderson had the fourth highest assist stat last season too. |

@tocdee, thanx 4 d comfirmation and correction. I'm just wondering the kinda formation King Kenny will play Next Season. With Nine midfielders, I wonder who's sure of being in the Starting XI. With this level of competition, I see us tearing apart a lot of teams |
