I actually purchased a new DStv decoder last month. It came with one month free Compact bouquet subscription. Towards the end of the subscription earlier this week, I received a call from a DStv marketer (01 280 6877). I was asked to upgrade to a Compact Plus bouquet for N10,650 in order to get double upgrade to the Premium bouquet. Since I wanted to resubscribe anyway (I actually wanted to maintain the Compact bouquet), I decided to do the upgrade and pay the extra in order to get the premium channels.

I paid the money and went ahead with the upgrade, believing that I was going to get the premium channels. After 48 hours, I was yet to get the upgrade and I sent an email. My email was not replied. I decided to call the customercare to make my complaint. The agent that spoke with me then told me that the promo is not for me as my account was only created in September. I queried her on why the company's marketer called me for a promo that I was ineligible for without mentioning it. When I got the message about the offer, it wasn't explicitly mentioned that it was for old customers ONLY.

My anger now is that I was essentially deceived by the company and their marketers to upgrade even when I did not want to. I do not actually need a Compact Plus (it's virtually the same with the Compact, apart from new sports content which I don't need). I only upgraded because I wanted to access the premium bouquet. I expressed my dismay to the customercare agent and told her that the company had tricked me. The extra money I spent is not the issue but the thwarted expectations that I had. I promised the agent to call out DStv for this blatant misuse of advertisement.

I have also tweeted @DStv, @DStvNg, and @DStvCare on this issue and have not gotten any response. I am bringing the issue here on Nairaland so that all Dstv customers or potential customers can know of the deceptive tactics DStv uses in its advertisement. Before you deal with DStv, make sure you ask them to tell you ALL the clauses because they won't tell you. All they need is your money so they don't care about consumer rights.


I will also forward my complaint to relevant regulatory agencies as well.




REPORT TO CONSUMER PROTECTION COUNCIL .HOPE YOU STILL HAVE THAT MESSAGE AND OTHER EVIDENCES

EVEN IF NA 500 RECHARGE CARD NETWORK PROVIDER WILL BE MADE TO REPAY

Which government agency regulates pay TV? Just like cbn-banks, nerc - discos, ncc-telecoms. Send them a mail/tweet copying the regulatory body and see them running "hecta seckta" to resolve it

Useless Dstv....that was exactly my experience just last weekend...I was on Access but decided to do an upgrade to Family with the hope of getting a Compact bouquet ( that's after getting a msg from them about the upgrade). So I paid for Family but after three days ...nothing..hmmnn. I went straight to their page on Facebook and issued a tough complain. Withing 20 min I was upgraded. This is not the first time I do this. Quite very unfortunate.
You were lucky...I made same complaints and dem never reply me till now, my sub is almost exhausted now ,don't know if I should just do the access bouquet and just watch football in my workplace since I spend significant part of my week there.

Las Las na awuuf wey dey purge belle cause all the wahala sha... I have been seeing that same message on my decoder for months... Beht I just keep casually ignoring... Cos I have always been on Compact, why TF would I decide to upgrade from Text you copy will automatically show ₦6,800 that I am paying to compact plus that is over 10K because of premium... How many channels I dey watch for the DSTV ni ❓


Last time I paid for premium sub was ages ago when the price was a bit reasonable, these days my Compact don do me.. Even recently on their website their latest scam is to be forcing upgrades on someone... Like two or so months ago after my sub expired and I wanted to renew, I went to their site and I saw it was a new design, oya lemme renew na only for me to see only Compact Plus option of 10K+ on my profile, Dem wan force me to upgrade... I messaged them on twitter, they said I should make payment first then revert undecided

I didn't even understand the English they were speaking beht to avoid stories that touch i just Jejely used my bank app to pay for the Sub, I was charged a little extra beht it was better than risking money entering Voicemail on the DSTV website

Same experience, different outcome! Tweet them and copy Consumer Protection Council; they are called FCCPC now or something like that. I also lodged a complaint directly. DStV finally caved in.

It took it one step further; I warned DStv never to call me or text me again for anything else I will sue them. I told them I do not want any promo ever from them. I pay my premium in full. I have never received any phone call from them since then

The promo is not for those on compact plus. I'm saying this as a subscriber who has been on compact plus for few years now. Also, it is a loyalty promo.

I think we have NBC and APCON for issues like this. I'll forward my complaints to them and tweet to their handles too.

Others can please suggest any regulatory agency that I can contact.

Many others would have been deceived by their promos and offers but they probably swallowed it. I do not easily swallow bitter pills and if I must, it is my civic duty to warn others so that they can be careful.


Just a note of warning: Dstv promotions are at their discretion,none of it is real.
Take it from someone who has been a customer of both Dstv and Gotv for over ten years.
Be warned that Christmas is coming and they will soon start vegetable oil and bags of rice promo in return for subscription. Just keep in mind that none of it is real!

DStv and Multichoice as a whole have been scamming Nigerians and we don't know.
Do you know that if you mistakenly credit a wrong no your money is gone? Multichoice will never do any thing about it u will keep sending mails that will never be worked on. I did a wrong subscription on the 8th of this month after sending mails with correct customers id card and prove of payment till today 12th nothing has been done. I keep getting everyday promises from their customer care that it will be done and yet it doesn't get done. Note this is the 6th time I am loosing money to them. It's too bad

The upgrade is not even worth it,just addition of Super sport 5 and 6 for seven days whenever i renew my compact subscrition,and the way they advertise it,you will think the upgrade is for a month.

After this post, they actually mentioned me on twitter to apologise for the inconvenience and they also said they are working on my account. That was yesterday evening. I've not seen any changes on my account till now. No feedback too.

I dont think so,Mine last for just 7days,and it only super sport 5&6,I once called the customer care and i was told it just for 7days.Dstv is annoying and i dont have another option for now thats why am still using it.

I should announce that DSTV finally placed me on the premium bouquet. They have given what they advertised. Thanks to Nairaland for making this possible.
