Good day fellow nigerians i have come to realize that genort rohr have come to sentimental critizing from most nigerians since he got the job. For me genort rohr has done well he is building a strong squad for the future we don't have players from real madrid' psg, liverpool or bacerlona. So we don't expect to be winning every matches where as this is friendly and is not a must win sitiuation is an avenue for testing new players . Buh for us to draw with brazil is a big plus for us. For the ist time players are been picked base on form not name which is a welcome development for us. Constructive critism is welcome not setimental critism due to ur clamour for a local coach. With Genort rohr i see nigerian football moving to the next level.

We do not embrace a good thing when we see one, the coach is the perfect fit for us. let it go! He scouted the boys, changed the team, still in the process of building and discovery. The current team can NOT boast of a superstar, but a collection of hungry young and unknown talents that most of us never heard of. Let it be Naija!

He has over stayed his welcome.

The gods have written him off. He should be relieved off his job.

Amoju Pinnick and co take upper hand in decision makings.

Only an indigenous coach will take Nigerian football to a higher height. Believe it or not.

Nigerians are a bunch of dishonest and ungrateful people.

We find this in politics, sports and other things.

Look around you'll see what I'm saying. There are fans of Aston Villa, Norwich and Arsenal in other countries that don't complain. But Nigerian Man Utd fans have been complaining more than the team.

Back to the sports, some years back we would have celebrated a draw with Brasil but here we are behaving as if Gernot Rohr met a team that won the World Cup. Rohr qualified us for the World Cup and Nations Cup without Nigerians using calculators.

That's how they keep shouting 16 years of PDP as if Nigeria was sending people to the moon in 1999.

This is because Nigerians need an avenue to vent their furstrations. Example we complain about everything....bbnajia, buhari, apc, pdp, girlfriends, man friends. I dare say it's in you like peak but in this case us.

The gaffer does not come across as a person that knows his onions. He doesn't actually inspire confidence.

His tinkerings can be annoying.

But it's a change from the status quo of choosing players based on quota as against form. Yes he is a scout. But what is he supposed to be? With the abundance of players at his disposal, he should be.

The powers that be that influences choice of players have apparently lost their voice.

So why is he critised. I will tell you this: his game management sucks. He is tactically inept, cant read the games and make the necessary calls in terms of shoring defense or marshalling out the right subs. Our players shine due to individual performances. How can you be leading and you can't close shop. We were 2goals up with Ukraine and yet we conceded annoying goals. The same script replayed with Brazil.

He is trying but I guess people are getting fed up with that script of rebuilding.

Has nothing to do with Rohr...Just the typical irrational and emotional Nigerian.

In here, head to the politics board, you will see them brazenly displaying flaccid emotions & irrationality.

In your neighbourhood, you'll see same...e.g One rich man drives past with a G-Wagon & for absolutely no reason, they display their hate & stupidity.

On social media, DJ Cuppy & Davido are hated by many senseless Nigerian youths...For absolutely no reason...Just the typical senselessness in display

Rohr hasn't done badly given the resources he has and the support...but some senile commentators who soak garri in their mother's house, will spill bile & you'll think they knew anything about coaching.

Does that mean we shouldn't criticise? No! But once criticisms are not constructive & rational, which is largely the case with many Nigerians, that's where the problem is

He is tactically weak, can hardly read the game from the bench, doesn't know how or when to make a substitution, although I would applaud him for player discovery and giving young players a chance, but I don't think Rohr can win us a trophy except maybe through luck or individual brilliance from the players.

Good question

In my opinion, Nigerians generally do not like a manager until he wins something. Gernot Rohr's case is only made worse because he is paid in dollars.

For a record eighth time in their history, Nigeria came away from an African Nations Cup campaign brandishing bronze medals around their necks. It is not just a record for Nigeria, but also for the tournament. No other country has more third-place finishes in the history of the competition. Super Eagles should have done better than bronze with the quality of talent at their disposal, believing the team was held back by a conservative coach.

There is no "one size fits all" solution, but Gernot Rohr's position be the major issue of concern?

Gernot Rohr's "lack of tactical nous" or, in other words, an "inability to read matches".

That comparison loses some steam in the face of context. Keshi had an almost ready-made squad with just a few additions to be made. Rohr has had to build his squad from the ground up.

Keshi's knockout stage opposition in 2013 was Ivory Coast, Mali and Burkina Faso. Rohr had to battle against Cameroon, South Africa and Algeria, were taken within seconds of extra-time by the 2019 Super Eagles.

Nigeria have had six coaching changes in the past five years. Samson Siasia, Keshi, Sunday Oliseh, Siasia again in a stand-in capacity, Salisu Yusuf (also in a temporary capacity) and then Rohr.

Oliseh aside -- he resigned due to issues with the NFF -- the rest have been fired. And the same story goes back even further.

Clemens Westerhof, is one of Nigeria's greatest coaches, was hounded out and did not even bother to return home with the team after they were eliminated from the 1994 World Cup. His former assistant, Jo Bonfrere, who won the 1996 Olympic gold medal with the under-23 team, was fired as Super Eagles coach. Philippe Troussier was fired. Amodu Shaibu was fired multiple times, despite qualifying Nigeria for two World Cups. Christian Chukwu was fired. Austin Eguavoen was replaced by Berti Vogts, who ended up being hounded out. Same with Swede Lars Lagerback, who opted not to renew his contract with the NFF after the 2010 World Cup. It is a long, unending cycle of celebrating new appointments, then bemoaning their (in)competence before sending them on their merry way.

This unending coaching merry-go-round seems to mask -- however unintentionally -- the real issue. That the complete grassroots development of Nigerian football has been, and continues to be, totally ignored. There are no articulated programs to scout, identify, develop and train talent from a young age. No structured tournaments for children to take part in. No playing philosophy, nothing beyond a hit-and-miss approach relying on an entitled "we have abundant talents" narrative. It's an approach that relies on said talents flocking off to Europe before being called into the Super Eagles, or, even worse, the cadet teams.

The domestic league, which should provide a conveyor belt of ready-made talent, is running on life support, as club administrators push back against much-needed reforms.

As it stands, two influential players retired after Afcon: Captain John Obi Mikel and forward Odion Ighalo; John Ogu may have been a bit part player, but he is also almost certainly looking at the door.

Goalkeeping remains a major issue. Nigeria have struggled in that department since the departure of Vincent Enyeama. Francis Uzoho showed some stability at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, but was shaky after. Ikechukwu Ezenwa is in his 30s, and rarely gets playing time in the Nigerian domestic league, and Daniel Akpeyi does not inspire confidence among the fans. Some say even among the coaches.

Nigeria can sack Rohr now or hound him out. But precedent has shown they are unable to attract any real big-name coaches. The ones they do attract, they take months just to hire. When a coach is eventually hired, whoever he is, what is the guarantee he will spend more than two or three years before being hounded out like others before?

And after poppling around in a fresh hire-celebrate-hound-fire cycle, the country returns once again to blaming the coach for another campaign that fails to meet entitled expectations, expectations without a grounding in fundamentals.

Rather than debating whether or not to fire a coach who has done more than most since Westerhof in 1989 to reboot the national team, conversation should be focused instead in a different direction.

How to reset the entire national football ecosystem in a manner that begins to produce and develop talent deliberately and consistently, one that will eventually lead to a playing philosophy that takes advantage of the in-bred self-expression of the Nigerian footballer as well as their natural physical attributes.

Good question @op.

I wonder why we people are unnecessary critical of him when he is performing well given his group of players.
Ask those against him who they think should replace him and they go quiet
Let's not have another José Mourinho and ManU situation where we start looking back to reappoint him after being sacked. We know the crop of players we have and our expectations should be tenable.

I don't like his tactics and substitutions.

Tactics and Substitutions at that level is what differentiate these managers.
His own upsets me.

Tactically, I don't see his difference from the past. The only difference is we defend deeper and give too much of respect to teams.

Whenever I see Onuachu, I just give up.

He's tactically deficient, too conservative, very predictable with his playing system.... He's blessed with a very good talented squad but he's not progressive and innovative....hence, we can never see the very best of those players
