The secret deal exposed by Daily Detail Newspaper.

Shortly before the election, there was report in the Media that Federal Government awarded Contract for the dualization of the much talked about Calabar Itu Road.

To prove a point, Julius Berger was said to have been mobilized with N11 billion to commence construction.

While campaign for the general election was hitting up, the foreign company was seen at some locations along the road with two or three equipments clearing and excavating some bushy areas where there were no houses or big trees.

Few hours after the Presidential Election, Julius Berger absconded from the Site and till date, no one knows their whereabout while the road has since became a death trap.

Shockingly, Daily Detail Newspaper has discovered that the story of dualization of the said road was created majorly for political campaign as the contract for the dualization of the road was not awarded as reported.

When Daily Detail contacted the Senior Special Assistant to President on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Ita Enang with "fact and figures", he confessed and confirmed that Daily Detail Newspaper's finding is true.

Here is the true situation of the road contract as confirmed by Ita Enang.

The proposal for the road project as submitted to Federal Government marks the road from Ibiakpan Junction in Ikot Ekpene - Akwa Ibom State to Odukpani Junction in Cross River State. Contrary to the proposal, only two sections with short distances were awarded. The sections were: Odukpani Junction to Power Plant and from Aydehe to Mbak Obio-Itam.

The section covering Ibiakpan Junction to Mbak Obio-Itam was not awarded and also from Aydehe to Power Plant was not awarded till date.

Of the two sections awarded, fund was not released for Odukpani to Power Plant section. The N11 billion allegedly released was for Aydehe - Mbak Obio-Itam section and yet, according to Ita Enang, the N11 billion was not enough to complete the Aydehe - Mbak Obio-Itam section.

However, findings by Daily Detail indicate that Julius Berger spent the N11 billion on mobilization of few equipments to and fro the supposed construction site and filling of few potholes within the Ayadehe - Mbak Obio-Itam section.

When Daily Detail also contacted the Minister for Works, Babatunde Fashiola through his Media Aide with "fact and figures" he said there was no update on the road from South-South Zonal Directors, hence, nothing is known about the current state of the road.
