There was an inferno at Upper Iweka earlier today when a truck conveying premium motor spirit (PMS) lost control and rammed into the fence of Toronto Hospital, Upper-Iweka, Onitsha.
Due to long absence of firefighters and fire fighting equipment, the fire quickly escalated into the nearby Ochanja Market.

Below are some photos gathered by news9naija after the incident that destroyed goods and properties worth millions of Naira.

They are so lucky that this disaster happened during this administration, atleast Osinbanjo and Sadiya will give them Tradermoni loan of 10k to restock their stores.

Obiano should be held responsible for this unfortunate incident. He failed those who lost their lives and properties to the inferno. It is a big disgrace that the fire raged for hours and the state fire service couldn’t do anything about it.

Very painful. People struggling everyday to feed themselves never imagined that something like this would happen to them. Too much suffering in this crazy country.

It's rather unfortunate. A friend's brother lost both his shops to this unfortunate incident. The guy couldn't stop crying when he heard the bad news. Only God knows what would be going on in the minds of all those who lost their properties.

Based on the size of that market, and the wealth of that state, I used to think that there would be some sort of security against issues like this.

This is an extremely insensitive post. Show some empathy and stop posting silly jokes about other people’s loss.

Every market and plaza should atleast have two section; Security section and Fire service section. The early intervention of fire service section would have retarded the spread of the fire and possibly halt it.
I cried when I saw the picture of a lady that died with her child...I cried more when i wanted to imagine the pain she felt before dying, trying to saveguide the child in the raging fire.

This is very tragic. Very sad. Painful when one remembers that we could have stemmed the tide, if we have a responsible government and proactive institutions like the fire service.

May God comfort and pay back those that lost things and lives.
