Here is what you need to understand,

Illegal importation from this neighbouring countries makes it difficult for Nigerian Businesses to compete within their own market/space.

So the Federal Government is giving the power back to Local producers (such as Rice farmers) by closing the border, so that the Local producers can also have the power to thrive within their own National economy" and this move is a win situation for every Nigerians because it will bring about inclusive growth (such as Job creation and poverty alleviation).

I hope you understand this simple analysis?

When u say "illegal importation", which products are u referring? Are u telling me that d only thing that happens at d borders is "illegal importation"? Pls what is d job of d Nigerian customs service?

Is it because an open border that our local rice farmers can't perform? What is d volume of local production compared to consumption?

Apart from rice, what other reason were d borders closed or is it because of rice d govt closed d border?

Pls were is SAMSUNG from? Are there SAMSUNG products in d USA? What about Toyota? Can d US make d products that SAMSUNG and Toyota make? Can d US make wine? Does d US import wine from places like France and Spain?
You are not getting the point, do the US smuggle those cars into their country? Do they import food or plastic rubbers? Do we close our border against importation of cars and mechineries?

I get it cos u aren't even communicating cos it seems u arent sure of what u saying? These were ur exact words that I responded to:

"can US allowed anything they can produce to enter into their country? Especially food"

Or don't u no d meaning of what u said?

D reason 4 international trade is so that countries can produce products at which they have a comparative advantage which they can now exchange for products they don't produce. because of that no country is self sufficient depending on d level of local demand compared with local production and food production isn't an exception. So yes, d US imports food and other products that its local production can't adequately satisfy.

U are asking this:
buhariguy:
Do we close our border against importation of cars and mechineries?

This is y I said u don't even no what u are saying. At present, have d borders been partially closed? Is it only smuggling that takes at our borders? Pls what is d job of our customs? D US u mentioned how do they handle smuggling? Is it by closing their borders?

As i said before, you are confuse, you dont really get the point. is to also eliminate ilegal importation of everythings like illegal arms , foods, plastic rubbers etc, if you must import, do it thru the right channel like seaport, other ecowas countries should stop using nigeria as dumping site.

Are you going to smuggle hundreds of generator containers from China through land borders?

No, I support economic policies that would leave us impervious to smuggling and make it difficult for the smuggler.

Like if we remove fuel subsidy, not only would smuggling of petrol have no rationale, but it would eventually lead to more jobs and savings which can be reinvested into education, transport, etc.

Also, if we increased no of ports, and ended corruption in the ports, who needs to.go.to.cotonu.

You are happily chopping money, which is why
you see me as a PDP supporter. Which I ain't.

Sorry to disappoint you

And your government needs to sit up. PDP was a disappointment. APC is just turning out to be like them

Look at how hard you defend Cotonou like you are paid to do so, such sympathy for port of smuggling none for your country!

A survey conducted clearly puts apapa ahead of your beloved Cotonou in terms of efficiency, what basis do you parrot their superiority?

Sad we share this country with people who take sides with criminals and criminality against us.

Third, ur ignorance is getting d better of u. There's no country in d world that is self sufficient in food production.
