apart from the fact that Nigeria loses from the border closure, other countries may unite against it- The Niger Delta activist reminds Nigeria of the issues between America and China and how the latter has humbled Donald Trump's administration.

A prominent Niger Delta activist and coordinator of the Ijaw Monioring Group (IMG), Joseph Eva, has warned that Nigeria risks the wrath of other African countries if if fails to reopen the borders soon.Eva, who spoke in an interview with Daily Sun, urged the federal government to urgently reopen the border adding that he once heard that the Nigeria was losing from the policy.“Other countries may unite to punish us back. In Ghana, Sierra Leone and Liberia etc, Nigerian banks are there, if they gang-up against us in this region, we may not be able to fight the situation or contain the disaster that will follow it,” Eva said in the interview.

The activist advised that Nigeria should have a limitation to its argument that it is carrying out the policy to teach neighbouring African nations a lesson. He pleaded that the borders should be opened before the Christmas and the New Year to ease the effect on citizens.“You don’t just wake up one morning and advise the president to close the borders. You can close the borders for one or two weeks in other to make the other countries see how they can team to arrest smuggling.“Nigeria cannot close borders without negotiating with Benin Republic, Togo and Ghana; if we behave like that they will also retaliate, if they retaliate in another way it can also harm our economy,” he warned. Noting that Nigeria cannot live in isolation, Eva reminded the federal government of the lessons to learn from America’s bragging about China until the latter taught the administration of Donald Trump what it should know.If borders remain closed for 2 years,
You know how America was bragging with China, and when China showed them a little of what they don’t know you see that President Trump’s head became normal.“No country has everything that it needs. So Nigeria should open the borders before they give a wrong signal that will create a problem for the country,” he said.Legit.ng earlier reported that Nigeria's borders may now be reopened on January 31, 2020, following an approval on the date by President Muhammadu Buhari. The report noted that the information was disclosed through a circular in which an extension of the policy was stated to last till the approved date Read more: https://www.legit.ng/1272485-border-closure-nigeria-incur-wrath-countries

2020 is still a long way to go..

Yes they can unite if truly they are united

As far as I can remember, we only share land border with four countries which are Benin, Chad, Niger and Cameroon.

Also Nigeria have not banned trade, she only Suspended (temporarily banned) trade via land borders.

So I fail to see why and how this gang would happen.

Are there measures they could take, which could potentially cripple our economy?

None !

We are barely producing anything and our major Export(Crude oil) is consumed in Asia, Britain and America.

Hence, we have all the aces.

Nonsense. They can’t do us anything. Their economy depends on ours and not the other way round.

Angry Ghanian people have been unlawfully shutting down Nigerian-owned shops in markets.
Such thuggery will continue to vent anger.

But the question I have is, why should Nigeria allow smuggling activity to continue? We lose Billions everyday.

My question is what is Benin and the rest of them doing about the tax evasion plus smuggling allegations Nigeria has against them? Has any of them denied these things? Is ganging up/blackmailing their wise response? What is there for the ECOWAS States to understand that they are not paying attention to? Nigerian is talking about smuggling an insecurity, a sane country that belong to ECOWAS should be concerned about all these insecurities, no neighboring country to us is more advanced, so if whatever is eating Nigeria up got tired of the same ol taste it’s going to attempt these countries too, then they will remember Nigeria army is the best land fighters in Africa. They are supposed to be working with us not fighting Nigeria like Ghana is doing, Ghana think she’s better than Nigeria but change is the only thing that’s constant and all eyes is on Nigeria, not ghana, not niger, not Benin but Nigeria.
The ECOWAS trade deal is clear, give us your country produce and we will trade ours with you but don’t go to far ASIA to buy good and trade it with us like you manufactured them, they are the one going against the ECOWAS trade policies not Nigeria.
Rice apart people load some of these bags of rice with ammunition, some mixed spare parts with ammunition the country that’s been affected by these things want it to stop that’s when others want to gang up, let them gang up. SA freedom was just 94’ and they are already behaving like a white country against their fellow Africans, the same thing Ghana is doing right now I hope by the time this country is made good and we start misbehaving the world will understand because even at Nigeria’s worse HE remain giant of Africa. They don’t even have companies here that’s finding it hard to export their goods to their home country, we have too many alternatives for Alomo, we never even drink our local jedi finish.

Very simple..................do you know that what happened in Libya, Syria, etc must not happen in Nigeria because the population would be too difficult to handle. This is very important that, a safe and well-doing Nigeria is also for her neighbours and Africa as a whole

I don’t know what’s wrong with Africa, the internal conflicts needs to end before we can compete with the world at large. Already we are 400 years behind and we barely started building our individual nations. Ghana think it can handle terrorism can’t help but laugh. If half of what’s going on in Nigeria talking about insecurity happens in any of our neighboring countries, they will be forgotten in no time.
Let’s say our government is not looking into growing our economy by investing in agriculture and we decide to buy rice directly from Thailand and India or wherever those rice are coming from will they still smuggle their own rice here regardless?

The Lion King does not concern itself about the opinions of cats and dogs. Since the creation of the universe, cats, dogs and goats have been planning against the Lion, but never in their life time will they implement their evil plans.

I can’t affirm that though not saying it’s not true because definitely there are people gaining something from the fight or maybe it’s really religious extremism but you don’t know for sure also you don’t know who is behind it or who is not.
The army keep engaging BH with both sides losing fighters. And since this fight there’s been I think 2 different presidents it’s really hard to say if you are not assuming.

There's very little they can do if at all they're gonna do anything. If our ports were not grossly mismanaged, I doubt our neighbours will have much to be bothered about. But as you know, the land borders are less intolerable, hence the reactions we're seeing.

I have friends in the military. and they are from the North. all i can say is that we all know the origins of Boko haram and how it was watered by the North. as i said, if the government wants to end it, they know what to do.
