Eat and use what you have.... you are in no competition with the outside world,if you really love the taste of the outside world, then make it if you can.

We complain of foreign exchange escalating while someone boldly said he bought $250 door from china and the other $120 undies from UK, when you can get very good ones in Nigeria here at quarter that price.

Some Nigerians like to just oppose their government unreasonably, most of you us blaming FG for staggering of our economic and when that Government trying to make it better through strategical policies for all, still you will criticize it due to that's what will make one's post popular, that's not fair, all the government effort is for the betterment of Nigeria and Nigerians.

That emboldened statement is absolutely wrong. It is only in Africa, nay Nigeria that things are done ethicall wrong in opposite directions.
In sane countries, negbours are legally binded to fix any source of dirty water from their end into another neighbor's house. If he/she negates, then he/she will pay for it triple times in kind and cash.

People like you and the writer's mindset are the problems of Africa. Selling your mind to the devil just because of perceived hatred for reasons best known to you.

In summary, what you are emphasising and supporting up there is balderdash

What's the point of setting these conditions when it was already declared borders will be reopened in January?
The conditions. Goods must be in the original packaging?...how would they determine that?....as if rice from China is repackaged as rice from Ghana? Goods must be escorted from the ports to the border crossing.... escorted by Police? These people need to sit down and plan policies instead just rushing to press briefings and saying whatever comes to mind.
the original package is directed to frozen chicken which is always put in nylon.

By this token, the UK and the US should drop their visa requirements and dare all illegal immigrants to breach their borders. Makes sense.

Why should they ? Don't you get it? Borders are not there for fancy but there for the reasons Buhari is closing the borders for . They are there to make sure only what we want get in . A Visa is a part of the border process

Border closing was never the full story.
There is so much more favourable things that government can do (to achieve desired results were they sincere), which they stiff-neckedly will never make happen because they are not that committed. Nigerians deserve better than this.

Why is it that we Nigerians are incapable of reasoning out of the box most of the time?.

I support Buhari on this one. For those of us who oppose this (strategically thought out policy implements) policy, please think deeply & think out of the box as well.

Could it be that, there are two strategic policy components to this?.

Could the first component seek to position Nigeria, for some sectors to witness increase in productivity/revenue generation and etc?.

Could the second component seek to early test the modus operandi of the newly signed Africa Free Trade Area & regional body like Ecowas engaging them to the seriousness of these treaties & how these treaties can sink some African economies while uplifting others. Thank God, that Nigeria have fired the first shot aimed at this complexities..... which I believe the outcome must be a stronger institution/regime to oversight the efficient running of these treaties to the benefit of all African economies while keeping the powerful predators guessing.

Enough said.

Oga the Borders are there to do what exactly Buhari is closing them for .. If your ship can't cross the ocean , will you blame the ocean or go and fix your ship? Supporting this is like saying you support the close down of MMA because many passenger were able to pass through the airport with cocaine .. A reasonable man will not close the airport but do what he has to do improve the vigilance at the airport by training staff better , buying better scanners , getting better trained sniffer dogs but not go and close the entire airport .

The ECOWAS country's should ignore this Nonsense .. Borders are similar to filters in reality a border is put in place to filter what come into a country and what leaves but the Buhari govt is trying to blame the filtering efficiency of it's borders on other countries which is total Balderdash !!!!! Border cost millions of dollars to maintain and they are not built for ceremonial purpose but to act as filter that filters out unwanted goods and allow what is wanted come . When your water filter is bad at home you don't go about blaming your neighbors for the dirty water coming into your home but you instead fix the filter and get it working properly

Just imagine how you copied my mind and pour it here... you're good my guy.
Why do we have custom ?
This whole border issue just shows how irresponsible this government is, I'm also bewildered at how ignorantly many are supporting the move.

you are right with your assertion but want I don't want to agree on is you blaming the buhari adminstration for the inefficiency in not filtering goods coming into Nigeria from its neighboring boarders.

So my question to you is this...

When decades long, problems of previous government inefficiency in filtering goods coming into Nigeria and the decay is seriously harming our local economy.....

What preventive measures do you think the government should take in preventing this menace that is seriously harming us?.

The answer is simple Buhari should fight the corruption of his customs officers at the borders who are the actual problem , they are the ones that charge bribes to allow people pass with contraband and Buhari should be instead focused on using what ever means he can afford to reduce corruption at the borders instead of this policy that is affecting only legit border users . As we speak the corrupt officers are still there cutting lucrative deals with smugglers to allow things pass in the early hours of the morning while the only people actually stranded are the legit exporters and importers ..look at it from this angle please , has the border not always been closed to smugglers ? Was there a time it was ever open to smugglers? No !!! The only thing that has changed now is that the border has be closed to legit users.

Hmmm...frozen chicken?...it wasn't mentioned. Even so.... how old is the frozen chicken? Why encourage the importation of chicken?...it should be banned....banned earlier in the year to allow citizens to raise enough for the upcoming demand.
Thanks for the update on the misinformation.... borders would be reopened in January.

I must say that the FGN is being extraordinarily proactive. It was literally the last signatory to the Africa free trade agreement and false and illegal transhipment was high on its concerns. Benin and Niger are test cases. Nigeria will not export its jobs abroad even if it's people feel they are entitled to drink french bottled water and strawberries. Good move. Good execution. The Vice President of Vietnam has already come pleading. That is the biggest importer of rice to Benin. Its biting.

This is what sooo many are failing to see. How we are depriving ourselves of job opportunities... of jobs... of production... of revenue... of building our economy .... but are helping others as in Benin and Niger and even more helpful to Vietnam who border closing will hurt even more.
The bolded is what concerned us the most at the time of signing... I guess they all swore to their gods that no such thing will ever happen... we signed... and it is happening. What is wrong if we now shut it down?...what is happening was not what we agreed to.

Why not reduce and streamline all those unnecessarily expensive port charges and make our ports a viable option for importers. That's a far easier option.
