They should have submitted Kunle Afolayan's Mokalik. Lionheart had predominantly English dialogues. Genevieve herself barely spoke Igbo there

If you claim to be an English speaking country, why are they asking you to write all forms of nonsense English language proficiency test to get visa. IELTS, TOELF and the rest.

Shebi na you want international award and they have given you their criteria. Why not go back and learn. Do your movies in your language and try again. Many Nigerian musicians are gaining international recognition using nigerian languages. You don't need to rant about the Oscars disqualification.

Thank God say no be naija award. Our ipod brothers for start to claim say na jealousy cause am and blame afonjas as usual.

King of boys is closest thing to a Hollywood blockbuster movie Nigeria has ever produced.
Exactly!
Imagine how a whole Makanaki whom the movie had protrayed a spiritually fortfiled street lord with the audacity to dethrone king Eni would just die by gunshot.
Look at the court used to judge the high ranking Eniola, can you compare the quality of that court to the one used in the series 'Castle & Castle'?
Not also forgetting the house of the Chief justice which got invaded looking so ordinary.
I was disappointed to be honest.

I love Genevieve but to be honest , that movie was mediocre .

Place it side by side with other movies submitted for best foreign language and it looks extremely bland .

Having 500 plus languages is no excuse .

The requirement for the category has always been clear ....best FOREIGN language .

No need to sensationalize and act pitiable .

A lot of countries are multi lingual but still manage to showcase their cultures and primary language.

Thanks for this submission. Nigerians like to play wounded knee sometimes and it’s deplorable.

We’re always shocked when others follow law and policy because we’re used to not doing it.

Genny & other Nigerian producers/directors should just take a cue from this to promote our cultural heritage more in their movies.
Been nominated in the first place is huge in my opinion.
it was never nominated. The nominations will be announced in January. Learn the difference between submission and nomination

Our official language in Nigeria is English; everybody knows this. But the movie didn't depict Nigeria as a whole. It depicted southeastern Nigeria whose language is predominantly igbo. So, yes; the Oscar academy actually has solid grounds for disqualification.

Truth be told
If they had made the movie more in Igbo, some people(non Igbo speaking tribes) wouldn't have loved it
If they had made it more in Nigerian pidgin, it would have been a nuisance
But all said, I think a mixture of Igbo, English, pidgin and a good subtitle would have gone a long way

There is this movie "Corner stone". the movie is about girls children. i will take that movie above all this movies with very well known actors but still produce poor acting. the movie " corner stone" with relatively unknown actors which were able to represent their roles very well is the kind of movies we need to be producing in this country.

seriously? remove the coverings we put on when we see our own's work being promoted,u might be able to see the message it passed and how Nigerians are represented, the struggles of transportation companies in this country, the interference of agberos, the unity of family in running buisness, unlike what is expected in Nigeria movies, that the uncle must fight to take possession, the fact that a female controlled a company and took over, nothing like gender was brought up, y will u compare it to others, they are all unique, stop bringing down ur own, try and give ur point for calling it mediocre without insults.thank u

Yeah true, stl a lot better than those AY movies that can’t match up with low budget Hollywood TV series... KOB certainly needs more work to be in Hollywood’s standard.
