1.
Toyota Prius (First generation)

The Toyota Prius was the world's first mass-produced electric petrol hybrid vehicle in the world. The national launch at the end of 1997 marked the culmination of a concerted five-year effort by Toyota Motor Corporation to develop and bring to the market a practical and low-emission family car.

Contrary to popular belief, Toyota has not developed the concept of a hybrid vehicle. The combustion engine and
electric motor vehicles already existed in 1898. However, Toyota was the first manufacturer to overcome the many technical and engineering problems necessary to drive this power-train to mass production. The focus was on the need to adapt the life of the high voltage battery to that of the other components of the vehicle.

At the heart of the new Prius (XW10 chassis) was the revolutionary Toyota Hybrid System, an integrated package whose mechanical components could still fit into a full-size engine compartment. The system was powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder NZ-series engine that performed a simulated Atkinson combustion cycle to achieve optimal fuel efficiency. It was connected to a compact and high-torque electric drive motor and a separate generator. The last component was a powerful nickel metal hydride battery hidden behind the rear seats.

2.
Toyota Prius (Second generation)

Building on this, the next-generation Prius (XW20 chassis) has been completely redesigned to capitalize on Toyota's continued efforts to develop hybrid technology. This progressive successor was launched on January 2, 2004 with 530 new patents and set standards at both ends of the service spectrum. It's faster and more powerful, but cleaner and more economical than ever.

It was bigger than the outbound car - now between Corolla and Camry - and had adopted a distinctive five-door "Kammback" design that helped it race through the atmosphere with a drag coefficient of only 0.26 Cd. Beneath this sleek exterior was a lightweight but enormously powerful body.

The new Toyota Prius also introduced the second generation hybrid drive, now known as Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD). The aim of this system was to restore the balance between gasoline and electric motors. Instead of relying on the gasoline engine for peak performance, HSD's electric motor as an accessory has increased the range and use of the electric motor for greater power output. In fact, it now offered more torque from zero to 1,200 rpm than a modern V6 diesel. The charge for this engine came from an improved battery pack with fewer cells and less weight, but a higher power density.

3.
Toyota Prius (Third generation)

It looks like the next Prius (XW30 chassis) has taken the benefits of Toyota's world-leading hybrid technology to an even higher level. The new Prius, considered the most advanced production car on the market, promises better fuel economy and performance, as well as reduced life cycle emissions from manufacturing to final disposal.

It set new standards for hybrid vehicles with a system output of 134 hp (plus 22 percent), a combined fuel economy of 72.4 mpg (plus 10 percent) and a reduction in CO2 emissions to just 89 g / km (a decrease of 14 percent).

All of this was achieved by seemingly counterproductive methods - a larger 1.8-litre Atkinson gasoline engine and a hybrid synergy propulsion system that was significantly smaller and lighter than before. In fact, 90 percent of the hybrid power train components were new.

By installing a larger displacement ZR engine, the Prius could achieve better fuel economy at lower revolutions - 300 rpm less at a cruising speed of 120 km / h. Meanwhile, a new exhaust gas re-circulation function has kept the operating temperatures under control so that the engine is less likely to require wasteful fuel enrichment to keep the catalysts cool.

4.
Toyota Prius (Fourth generation)

In each of its three generations, Prius has cut CO2 emissions by an average of 10 percent. Therefore, Toyota's challenge was to continue and hopefully accelerate this rate of improvement in the fourth-generation car.

With this in mind, the new Prius features a lighter, more compact and more efficient hybrid power-train that offers lower fuel consumption, lower emissions and lower costs. The platform is based on the Toyota New Global Architecture, which is designed to improve dynamic performance through a lower center of gravity and a stronger structure.
Toyota has been known for its standard features....What do you think

Cool ride
Me likey

Good day Nlander.
I have a relative whose surname is wrongly spelt on NIMC slip.
The centre has not issued the slip that contains NIN info. When she called their attention to the error ,they told him they will correct it later.
I just want to confirm is it possible for the NIMC staff to correct the name since they have not issued the one that contains NIN or she should start the process again in another centre without telling them.
Please I need your candid advice.

A few of this car still ply Ibadan roads and I'm very sure the hybrid systems must have stopped functioning. Not after Kazeem has touched the engines.
