Cost estimates for for 1 hectare of garden eggs farm near stream.

1. Land lease and preparation 80k.
2. Seedlings and Transplanting 100k.
3. Fertilizer and pest control 80k.
4. Weed control (x2) 70k.
5. Irrigation 120k
Total cost 450k.

Sales:
10,000 garden eggs plants on one hectare in 3 months of harvesting will generate friuts of N150 per plant after the first 2 months growth phase of the plant.

Market:
From the present one I am harvesting and selling, the market is stable and will appreciate as the dry season sets in proper.
No glut. Local and big markets is good to go.

Your plant density is rather low. You should be able to plant 20,000 stands in one hectare.

The land lease and preparation and the weeding control cost is high.

You did not say anything about how it will be managed, do you want to run the project for people or do you want people to get the land through you and run the project by themselves?

The purpose of your post is not very clear.

20,000 plant population is too high. Each plant will grow to occupy 1m sq. hence, it will only take 10,000 plants in practice.
Any investor can take land any where and manage by him self or put a manager.
There is also suitable land in my operational area to execute the same project for any serious investor.
Land lease and preparation cost is minimal as all process is manually done.

I am trying to understand how you arrived at N120k for.m the cost of irrigation. And how do you manage to irrigate many ha of land? There should be many areas far away from the stream. I am just trying to get it. Or is it that they carry hose on 1 ha of land? Sprinkler? Drip? It is not funny to just write N120k budget for dry season eggplant. I am confused here. I am asking cos someone pointed this to me and was asking of it is a good one for him to invest..what I am concerned about is the irrigation.

Or are you providing central pivot system?

Kindly take time to really explain explicity the details. Break irrigation down. Write out what exactly will be bought for 1 ha. And explain how the operations will be done. For me...irrigation is farming during the dry season.

Hope to read from you.

120k to irrigate one hectare?? Do you plan to irrigate one hectare with just pumping machine and hose?? I find this very difficult to understand...

h.mm,this is quite intriguing to irrigate 1 hectare of garden egg for at least 70-90 days before commercial harvesting can begin with ₦120k,or less the land is a government sponsored site that has water pumps, water pipes and central pivot system or raingun pre installed it will be a mission impossible to irrigate 1 he hectare for at least 70 days with ₦120k,if there are no system already in place and only water pump and hose will be used this is a rough estimate of the cost,(1)2 China water pump ₦70,000(2)2 rolls of 1 inch flexible hose ₦24,000,(3)1 roll blue layflat hose 2 inches ₦12,000(4)short hose for water intake ₦3000,(5)₦2000-₦1500 fuel daily for 70 days ₦105,000,(6)water pump maintenance/oil changes ₦20,000,rough total estimate #233,000,labour is not included, acts of God, unforseen circumstances are not included.

Thanks for the figures.i am sure since you started using drip, you understand why it is the first equipment to get. It makes life so easy. The cost of labor is reduced drastically. It saves so much. I used 25 liters for 10 days irritating 35,000 plants on 1 ha with drip with just only one person handling it. Also, no need to do fertilizer side dressing again. By the grace of God sir, you should try to add mulch soon and see how your productivity will increase exponentially.

But this OP is always opening investments like this with many hectares of land. So, it gets me thinking if people do not go there, or he is always successful since no one has ever complained about him.

I am curious to read from him how he irrigates many hectares he is always rolling out as investments every 2 to 3 months. I mean, he is always saying....take opportunity of river ABC nearby or whatever and then get workers or invest. I am curious. But I just want him to explain and give figures like you did it. Your explanation is almost perfect in my opinion. And how he is getting workers to handle hectares almost everytime, and how he is doing it needs serious understudy if truly he gets it done perfectly all the time.

Or is it that "guy man" announces projects to get his share of land lease and land preparation? This is what OgunOsun River Basin does...and even other basins in Nigeria. Go there at your loss.

A million thanks for all your contributions to the topic.
We already have in place a 2" pumping machine, hoses and pipes.
The land we are using is a bit sloppy and terminates by the stream.
Fuel consumption is low as the size of machine and low pressure to pump because the land is a bit sloppy.
Reducing cost of production is the key. I use 6 liters of fuel per day. change oil myself. except when there is a major fault with the machine.
it is not always an easy task. it is work, work and work to get the targets for the investor. Then the gains follow.

There are many Nairalanders that came through my posts and have settled down with their farms all around the area. some with multiple acres and some with one or two acres. in all, I will always give each my attention and assistance as some are new to commercial agriculture.

I do not want to doubt your services because if you are not trying your best, I am sure someone would have called you out here.

Also, I appreciate your honesty that it is not easy using the method. I know it cannot be that easy. Only a farmer understands what we are saying here. Especially a farmer who has gone inside deep bushes to till the soil.

Well, if I may suggest sir. Just try to get some of the people who are already doing well and open minded to buy drip irrigation. They may not cover all their farms this time. In fact, you can help them with a quality product (not those 0.2mm thicknss that all importers are selling that break easily). Even if it is 500m each farmer can buy at the start, it is ok. Let them just try it. No one likes to work too hard. At the end, the cost of labor and fuel make it cheaper than using the present method. A roll is like 1,000m to 2,000m for a farily thick drip. And it is around N55k to N60k max. Except the seller is making too much profit. Fix fertigation....but first try to use fetigation yourself to perfect it cos it is tricky. If you cut of the time and energy used in irrigating the farm and side dressing fertilizer, you are optimizing and reducing the cost of production by almost 40% or more. 2 to 5 farmers can share a roll since you have groups of farmers.

My God bless your hustle.

you can add 40 days okro to the project of pepper or garden egg
Re: Dry Season Garden Egg Farming. For Serious Investors Only. by Alpha2k(m): 2:14am On Nov 19, 2019
adding okro to the project is extra cost but will bring back about 50% of the entire project cost before the harvest of the major crop.

Those visiting this week from Lagos should take a bus from Oshodi, ketu or berger to Mowe bus stop. cross to the other side and take keke marwa to Ofada last bus stop.
Finally, take okada to mokoloki. I will be awaiting your arrival at the okada park.
thanks.
