If they can remake "Living in Bondage" and "Rattle snake" I am confident one will win the Oscars. Indomie generation will not understand what I just said.

Nigeria has over 300 languages anyway and there is beauty in them. Have you listened to an Edo speak or an Igbo speak, beautiful sounds when a foreigner hears it.
We should embrace ourselves more, our culture and values.
Nigerians are always the first to buy expensive foreign products and stuffs but guess who is losing value - the brand Nigeria.
I commend Oscar's for this, be original or go back to your villa. In fact no Nigerian film should send an entry next year if it isn't ready to be original and showcase the true culture and stories of our people.

Problem with most of us is, we fail to read terms and conditions. We just assume we know it or we will find out along the way, which is not bad. But, what I find pungently annoying is, we trying to fault the system when we are being told the right thing. This category is for 'Best Foreign Language Film' and then renamed 'Best International Film', these should be films that are not English Language, for Christ's sake! Why not put your films in other categories you know you stand a chance and stop being cry babies over your ineptitude.
cool

Nigeria’s official language is English. Why do they think we all speak some Zulu language here?

Why is there so much emphasis on this award? Like we can’t form our own award?

They should stop embarassing us with nonsense abeg. Its like begging for slots when you are not qulaified.Submit movies with local languages end of story.

India was colonized by the british but their movies that have won over time have been done in their language and we all watch with rapt attention

Geneivive and co should take note and stop arguing. It makes them look silly.

PS nobody is marginalizing them

This is getting irritating. Dont we Nigerians read? We know we cannot compete on the average movie categories, so we opt for the international category. Unfortunately, the international category has strong rules of the language of communication not being majorly in English. When the movies eventually get rejected, we now claim racism. Why are African themed movies like The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind not going for international feature film category?
they says its being rejected for too much english, abi u no sabi read in English ni?

Local languages and pidgin it is then. They are subtly letting africans know they cant speak English more then the real owners. Start using pidgin and local languages add subtitles case solved.

In all honesty, i have always thought these movies were unrealistic ,you see house helps who are supposed to be not too educated blasting English, its just unrealistic.

Nawa o. We have a thousand and one Igbo,Yoruba, Hausa etc movies that we could have submitted.
.

I noticed that most Nigerian films made in our local languages are low-budget flicks with terrible translations.

The reason is probably that they don't get the attention, hype and revenue that the English-themed movies get.

So, I am guessing that the day an Igbo, Hausa or Yoruba movie is submitted to the Oscars, it will be disqualified at once.

Unless they will start making films in our local languages with great budget in the hopes of snagging an Oscar plaque.

Now u southerns understand why the hausa is more valued by the Western media cooperation than other Nigerian language. E.g BBC hausa

Because no matter what hausa value their language more than English and express it without shame every where they go.

If Nigeria official language is English why do Nigerian film makers submit their movies for the award in the first place? Don't they read terms and conditions? This also implies that our movies are not foreign movies to them since it is spoken in English.
