The Nigerian government has announced plans to ban the importation of steel products into the county to encourage local investors in the sector.⁣

“My ultimate aim is that we ban steel importation into the country totally,” Nigeria’s Mines and Steel Development Minister Olamilekan Adegbite said.⁣

⁣“But before we do that, we must be able to satisfy local consumption from local production and have some excess for export, that is where we are heading,”
the minister said.⁣

⁣If it comes into effect, the ban will be a part of Nigeria’s tilt towards protectionism. The country closed its borders in August to limit smuggling in of rice and illegal export of petroleum products.⁣

Very commendable development if actualised.

Everyday, Tons of our iron minerals are exported, lead/zinc are exported to China and resold to us as finished goods.

While we complain about exporting our crude oil for refining, we should focus on other resources that are exported and resold to us.

Importation of iron rods especially must be banned. Enugu has a steel manufacturing company and that should serve the east.

Shame. So with all the blacksmith and billionaires in this useless big for nothing country we import metals to build our houses? Metals? Ordinary Ghana stopped the importation of steel and metals as far back as 2014 and even banned their country from exporting scraps out so they can have enough for their steel industry. Even ordinary Kenya banned Okrika clothes which they called: “obroni wawu—dead white man’s clothes). Even Ghana has banned okrika which they called Salaula and wretched Zambia doesn’t open its doors for dumping. Why can’t nigerians make what they will use? What a useless country filled with useless rich fools who are only interested in running to Dubai and posting rubbish photos on social media. What a wasted set of dead brain people!!!
guy, you get bad mouth o!!!
