Some times i wonder where i got it all wrong. I was once primed for greatness. My comprehension skills used to be topnotch. I used to have an instintive and intuitive ability to tackle questions. I also had leadership qualities in the office, in church, in school and other places. My secondary school literature teacher then would call me an orator in the making. Things changed within a twinkle of an eye. I have lost my sense of reasoning (literary speaking). I reason like a brat with no control ever since i was introduced to bet9ja. I will let you in on its consequences on my life |

Of all the addiction i encountered, like betting, daily consumption of sugary food, masturbation etc, betting [virtual in bet9ja] is the one that has made me miserable the most. The most painful truth is that there is no cure to this problem. In the past, i talked about how the act made me sell all i had and also borrowed and begged money to invest in its imaginary profit. When one is broke, one quickly changes and promises not to play again. But once money comes, the will to play becomes stronger than anything. Since my mum travelled, eating for me and my siblings became hard. I had to speak with my dad who we were not in good terms with to send something. He managed to squeeze out 5k for us. I was so sure i will use it to buy foodstuff until i foolishly went to a bet9ja shop to charge my phone. While charging, i began to watch 'the screen.' i noticed that the gleefulness of punters that day was high. They were winning. All guesses as i watch the screen were working. So i felt it was my lucky day. I tried 150, it nearly entered. Tried 200 (safe game of 2 odd) to recover the 150. That was how one kept 'cutting' until i lost it all. Then the shock of what i did dawned on me. The spirit of gambling is strong. Do you know any time money comes to my mind (i see it as bet9ja money), i only see it as game money. Despite not having a girl friend, good clothes, toiletries, amongst other things. My shoe badly needs mending, i barely shave, bathe or brush regularly. My hair is bushy, my boxers and clothes torn, lack of proper medication etc. Do i care? 5 Likes 1 Share |

Well, I play bet, but not an addict. When I have 10k for instance and have decided to go buy shoes, not bet company in the world can eat shishi out of it. That's called maturity! While we play the game, we should know our boundaries. And again, virtual game in particular is not good. The reason is that the game is controlled by the bet company against us and in their favor. That's why personally, I don't play it at all. I can stay in a bet shop from morning till evening without staking for virtual game. Most times, my daily routine will be to go to a bet9ja shop as early 8am and stay there till evening. I lose self esteem and pride and join incoherent and unparochial discussions with young boys. People younger than me, that should have seen me as a mentor. I have a penchant for standing behind those gambling to beg them for something when they win. Boys even 10 years younger than me don't regard me as any thing again. In fact, i envy their life. They are composed, well-dressed and disciplined in betting. You will even find me begging biscuit, bons or any other food from those eating at bet shops. That is the miserable life betting has reduced me into with little or no dreams 4 Likes 1 Share |

Duuude your case strong o. There was a time I sold my Samsung laptop for 80k and invested the entire money in Bet9ja. To some people, betting ruined them, to some other people, it helped them. Especially those that are conscious about money. I used to spend spend almost 300naira back then on weed and calypso. Then a bet shop was opened next to my lodge. I do not really fancy the betting of a thing, but some guys in my lodge do play and some win well. So i decided that, I will be using that my 300 weed money to play on two days interval, some times, I win, some other times, I don’t, but no matter what happens, I do not exceed that 300 daily limit. Gradually, I realized that I can live without weed. And at the same time, I stopped winning much on bets, so I started playing everyday hoping to win thereby stopping the smoke of weed on daily. Then, ASUU went on strike in 2013 during my final year, and that was how I went home, no bet shop to patronize and at the same time I realized that I do not smoke weed anymore. At some point you have stop all this whining and self pity and TRY to actually change for the better. Seek help. If you can't afford a therapist, there are sites that offer psychotherapy or at least articles that can help with your addiction. Google them up. 2 Likes |

...to go Charge phone... That line works on my spirit 99% of the time. I had to buy a 22mah Powerbank to cut off the temptation. After about 8wks, I had a service call adjacent to the bet9jashop around 8:30am... You guessed right. The logic this time around was... Just plug ur Powerbank there and save #50 meant for charging it at an aboki shop about 9 buildings, at the back of my office. Me: makes sense, of course not like I am playing and I ain't staying. Fast forward to 5pm. I spent the same amount to board a bus to the betshop- mr stupid. Got there, said to myself this Powerbank isn't near half full, waited a while, before I know it the bet9ja vudu toasting got complete. Within the next 40 minutes, I had lost #11.500. A white girl, the girl said there were some time she was on winning streak or loosing but strangely discovered that she remained sad not because she was loosing or winning but because her fingers were becoming numb from blisters and her eyes were becoming heavy with sleep. She hated that nature had to take it's cause because eventually she fell asleep while she strongly "needed" to continue. She stole, she did all sorts that gambling bring out in people. She lost severely. Depression engulfed her. What happened to you is an ideal scenario of how the bookies make money. They count on your greed and miscalculations to rob you and pay the few disciplined and calculative gamblers. What happens when you play for fun, is that greed does not get hold of you and you are able to make the right decisions. Bro... gambling is an addiction.... and an addiction is hard to break. Cigarette addicts.... hard drugs addicts.... porn addicts.....none ever started out with the intention of being an addict. Most start on the road by trying out... wanting to experience... for fun... and it goes downhill from there. Like op said.... once money enter your hand... then it must be used to bet.... today is my day...if I don't bet I may miss out big time. Sense of reasoning.... ask yourself.... if you hit it big... how much would that be to make you very happy? Then ask yourself.... how much have you lost chasing the big win? What you need to remember is that the game is always biased towards the company...you will lose more than you win. The occasional win is just to boost your ego and trick your brain. They make money by capitalising on your faulty reasoning and convincing you that you will win if you just "try one last time...." |
