Dude, it can be true. I know many who entered UNIBEN at 16 even a few years before him. It might surprise you but by then people did GCE O' level as external candidates in old class three. And many passed all the papers around age of 14. Yours truly did and many others.

You had to be 16 by October 1st of year of admission or something similar. Some just did it to test how much work they needed to pass compulsory English & Maths instead of waiting to do WAEC in class 5 and fail English/Maths. And begin re-enrolling in panic.

Many who passed in old class 3 or 4 just left secondary if they also passed Jamb. A relative did and graduated at age of 19 plus. No big deal there.

I even know one or two who passed GCE O'level so young that they had to increase age for Jamb.

The minimum age to enter university then was 16. When I was in university, some intakes were 16

the transition from waec to ssce meant that those who were suppose to pass out in 1989 would spend one more year in school. that is, there was a change from a 5year program to a 6year program. hence nobody I repeat nobody passed out in 1989.

Please, dont say what you don't know. I was 15 years in class 5 and just turned 16 when I got admission into Unilag. Some of my class mates even took their GCE in form 4 and got admission before me.

Some schools did not adopt the 6334 system immediately. I finished in 1989, from form 5 at the age of 15 from The International School (ISL) Unilag.

P.S. : no one had beards, not to talk of thick ones. It depends on the school you went to. All what you say applied to public schools, not the likes of the Federal university International Schools.
