LAGOS TO ONITSHA WITH EASE

By Tony Onyima

Concerned by the increasing complaints about the pains of Nigerians plying the Lagos-Onitsha route, I decided to seize an opportunity on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 to find out the real situation. For complete experience, I traveled with one of the transporters at Jibowu. After an excruciating traffic along Redeemed Church corridor, we finally commenced the journey to Onitsha at 10:30am. By the time we arrived the Niger Bridge, I had counted 60 checkpoints. I was painstakingly taking notes and few shots. alas someone with sense. They always complain, must always have a reason to complain. Smh. They complain of highway robbers, complain about fulanis kidnapping them on the highway, they are still here complaining about check points again which is obviously meant to protect the highways. It's not as if, the corrupt officers will ask them(the travellers) money, it's the drivers that will pay it all if the officers should ask for bribe at the end.

So what exactly is these peoples' problem in life? Or are they just wired to "complan" every seconds of their life?

Too much bitterness in them.

So apart from enjoying uniformed armed services extorting money from hapless drivers all over the south at every 100 meters on the highway, what else are you enjoying about about your sweet and lovely government?
Regular electricity?
Good roads, oh yes, you don't want any complaints about that too.
Better health care?
Standard schools, and educational system?
Oh, how about adequate employment for the youths

Don't complan, because everything is alright!

If any of these chronic wailers was kidnapped on that road when insecurity was high, they won't be typing nonsense. All the checkpoints mentioned are between lagos and Benin which had the highest incidence of kidnapping. Why did OP not talk about Benin to onitsha. There were no incidents of kidnapping there. Pull them out, you will start shouting fulani are kidnapping and trying to fulanise. Install checkpoints and stem kidnapping, you still shout about the number of checkpoints. Are you guys wired to wail? What sort of victim spirit possesses you guys. You should actually be talking of these uniformed men discharging their duties responsibly and not harassing innocent citizens.

If there's professionalism in all these check points there's no problem but the rate of harassments on travellers on these routes is so danming,to be honest even most of them doesn't have any means of identifications, unmarked vehicles,no uniform, how can you report such kind of officers?

I was on that road last week en-route Bayelsa. We are more safe now than before. Let the checkpoints remain. The police just have to be more professional in discharging their duties.
