Onyema’s Case Goes Tough As EFCC Seizes His Passports, Restricts His Movement by plaindealer: 2:52am On Dec 02, 2019

On the 23rd of November, 2019, Allen Ifechukwu Athan Onyema, the Chairman of Air Peace was charged with 27 counts of money laundering by one U.S. Attorney Byung J. “BJay” Pak.

Mr. Byung said that Onyema moved more than $20 million from Nigeria through United States bank accounts in a scheme involving false documents based on the purchase of airplane.

The US court had since then issued a warrant to arrest Onyema and authorised US marshals service to bring him into custody.

In view of the above, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Sunday, went tough on him by seizing his passports and restricting his movement.

A source according to The Nation disclosed this.

His words, “Following his interaction with our detectives, it became imperative to restrict his movement to the country because we will need him from time to time.

“We have seized his passports for unfettered comprehensive investigation. And so far, he has cooperated with our team.

“During our interaction, he maintained his innocence. We have, however, made progress in our preliminary investigation”.

On the likelihood of extraditing Onyema to the US, the source added: “This depends on the MLAT between Nigeria and the US. For now, we are only investigating.

“The extradition process is within the purview of the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation. You should not forget that the EFCC has to investigate, establish prima facie case and arraigning the suspects in court before any extradition application can be initiated.

“The US government knows what to do as far as the invocation of the MLAT is concerned. We are only fulfilling our own part of the collaboration with the relevant US agencies.

If you ask me EFCC should take a chill Pill for the now and allow US finish what they started, so that we can get to the root of this.. At least we can be sure of transparency, and no religion/tribal factor as well as political leaning playing or interfering with the process am not saying EFCC is guilty of the bolded.

God bless Nigeria.

His cup don full. He's done for. Let this be a lesson to his cohorts. Say no to tribalism. The offender is a Nigerian, and not a representative of any tribe. Let's join hands together to fight tribalism and crime.

When they caught Maina like a wild animal, there was no ethnic undertone?
Adoke is about to be bundled back like okrika cloth, no ethnic bias?

You should have asked the EFCC to wait till the Ohaneze gives them permission. Nonsense.

Onyema and his Co-accused CFO should temporarily step down from Air Peace pending when this matter is resolved and let someone else take over. His stupidity is going to kill this airline.

Do you know how many BEC email scammers EFCC has shipped to the US recently?
They would willingly ship Onyema to the US like cocoa and use it to get promoted here in Naija.

Just so you know, the USAID is a donor agency to the EFCC and the FBI trains and works closely with them.

Onyema needs divine intervention to escape this.

You my friend, are like Jon Snow. You know nothing.

Today makes it exactly one month that Adedeji Adeniran was extradited from Nigeria to the US for indictment for fraud.

Another one Ayodeji Fatunmbi, extradited from Nigeria to US for fraud and jailed.

"If the Nigerian government is required to cooperate in any way, including extradition, if it meets the requirement of our laws, they will be assisted to prosecute them and face justice," he said. - Buhari August 2019.

What EFCC is doing is similar to what we call "holding charge" AKA clearing and forwarding. Go and ask lawyers to explain it to you.

They would strip him naked, collect everything from his hand, waste his energy in Nigerian courts and now ship him to the US make hand touch am wella.

He will rather let EFCC prosecute him.

Why the haste by the media propaganda EFCC to do this? Why not allow the US to conclude it's own side of the investigation?

Yes! Allen Onyema should be have his passport seized and investigated accordingly. However, it was in this same country EFCC have not only refused to prosecute Musiliu Obanikoro, Orji Uzor Kalu, Ayo Oke(DG NIA) etc but have also returned their international passports

Yes.

He should hand over to his protégé or someone he trusts to run that business till he gets back from jail. As at today, Onyema and his CFO can't sign financial documents on Air Peace. How then do they source parts and maintenance?
