Why Is Igbo Language Going Extinct? by Charleys: 2:20pm On Dec 05, 2019
If you hear a Yoruba person speak you won't hear one English language, so also if you listen to a hausa man speak.

But when you listen to an Igbo man speak, you can understand Igbo by just mentally adding the English that he adds to the language and you'll at least know what he's talking about.

This is to show that the igbos are gradually loosing their language so they therefore replace the ones they lost by adding English to it.

An average Igbo man can't count from 1-100 in his language. It's not that this is a criteria but the igbos have truly lost it on this one.

After some years the Igbo language will be replaced by another language but nobody knows yet.

Most igbos will never tell you their real names but will only use English names,
You hear yorubas using their names but you'll never hear igbos use their names.

You can only know their names later on but not at the first meeting.
The first meeting they tell you an English name.

This shows their hatred for their names and language.

Speaking Igbo (vernacular) is punishable in schools in the south East why?

The igbos are suffering from low self esteem.

Extinct may not be the best word for it, but at this rate, it will definitely die from stagnation. It is simply not growing/developing as a language and utility.

Igbo Language is going extinct and that is the truth. I think it comes down to Growing up in Diaspora. For Example a lot of Yoruba overseas grew up in Lagos/Ibadan or Yoruba Land whereby a lot of Ibos here are from Lagos or PortHarcourt. Ibos like to travel and are very good in assimilating in other societies and I think that they want to pass on the successes of their assimilation to their kids so they look at teaching their kids Ibo not important.
