Many Lost Source Of Livelihood As Dilapidated Road Renders Asaba Business Hub Inaccessible

Revive Africa Initiative has drawn the attention of the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa to the dilapidated state of Oliko street that interlinks a sand beach with the capacity of 80 tippers in Anwai Road, Asaba.

Contained in a petition titled “OLIKO STREET (TIPPER JUNCTION) ANWAI ROAD, ASABA : SAVE OUR SOUL”, to the state government and copied to the Commissioner for works
Director General, Asaba Capital Development Agency and the Delta State, House Committe Chairman on Works, Revive Africa Initiative lamented the total breakdown of the road which neither tippers nor small cars can access.

Excerpts from the petition reads;

“We believe that your attention have not been drawn to Oliko street (Tipper junction), by Anwai Road Asaba.

“Aside being a road in the state capital, Oliko street is situated at a very conspicuous and strategic area in the heart of Asaba. This is the road immediately by the side of Association of community youth Office in Anwai Road, the junction immediately after this road is Bridge FM junction.

“Also this road is of great economic importance to Delta state as it is the only road leading to the sand beach in Anwai road with over eighty (80) tippers using the beach on daily basis.

“About three months now the road has totally broken down and neither tipper nor small cars drives through the road any more, taking both the beach owners, beach managers, tipper drivers, tipper owners, manual labour and the secondary values chains out of business.

“This is of great economic impact on the masses and surely needs urgent attention of Government.

“Your Excellency, it may interest you to know that the stretch from government house to FMC by the left hand side, this is the only major street that is not tarred yet it is the road with the highest economic potential for our dear state along that axis.

“Premised on the above, we are calling on your Excellency to kindly consider the merits in this call and intervene promptly to save the road from further washing into the River.
