The challenges of the power sector has been going on since i was born and now that i'm getting old. The truth is that the problem of the power sector boils down to the bad government of the country who privatized the industry and has refused to regulate it properly. The prepaid meter should be made available to all the individuals and companies and the DISCOs and the GENCOs will have no choice than to give 24hrs supply and also maintain their infrastructure. The high tariff is also a major problem. In this case the government can come in and subsidize it knowing well that when the power sector is fixed, every other sector will grow with little or no effort.
At the same time, there are companies and individuals that has sworn never to pay their electricity bills through illegal connection and bypassing of their meters and this has poised a great challenge to some of the DISCOs. With the advancement in technology, the DISCOs can easily curb this menace and make sure that everybody will be paying for the energy being used.
With the right people at the helm of affair, Nigeria will get there.

Right words of motivation but is the political will to execute it there? Kudos for having the good will to speak out in the first place rather than spending time and resources on irrelevant hate speech bill. The truth is that there are so many dark forces in Nigeria that will kick against this tooth n nail. Hence, the Power Generator importers and dealers that will lobby ur fellow law makers to oppose the motion till thy kingdom come....

True..the power sector needs immediate attention now sad

The state of emergency will do little more than grant some members of the same band of thieves (APC&PDP) oversight of the power sector, making them some more billions in the process.

We don't need any stupid state of emergency. Just do the right thing.

Let the funds appropriated get to the contractors as and when due.

Empower TCN PMs and Consultants to oversee the contractors and follow their recommendations. They are the experts and, believe me,.they know the job.

The political class are the same people frustrating the power sector.

All talk talk and talks! All we will hear is commitee has been formed to look into this and that..... That would be the end of it!

Oh sorry I forgot to add the "$10billion has been allocated" part of the story grin

Every minister of power in Nigeria are referred to as minister of darkness.

But being an ignoramus with a jaundiced mentality, your myopism won't let you have a broad mind.

declear state of emergency and share prepaid meter to every damn nigeria and to evaquate d red bulb as against energy savings...and behold all we b OK in nigeria
I lived in UK for a good 4 years. I can't remember seeing power cables anywhere except the expressroad.
All their cables are buried under ground. In fact, Government built their houses, supplied the lines to the houses and supplied everyone with prepaid meter. Your own is to pay rent/mortgage and buy credit for your meter.
In my 4 years their "NEPA" took light only 2ce for a total of 5mins.

In Nigeria here, all this wires dangling up and down is an issue. Welders and other Electricians will just be tapping the light and blow out transformer. You will be there in the house with your prepaid meter and there's no light getting to you.

I think the better and faster way is the national grid should go and states/region should generate, distribute and generate Power individually, everybody will wake up coz the competition to get your area 24hrs light will be there.

President Yar Adua was set to do that before the celebrated drunk who hopefully is now sobre got in the driver’s seat and used the gearstick for the car steering. Not unexpected that he remained immobile!

That's UK.

There are power lines hanging from poles in parts of USA, Ghana and Greece. All countries enjoying 24 hour electricity.

Our problem is us.

Lawsn says a lot without saying anything. I can't find exactly what his point is in what he said.

If you ask me though, the sector has multiple problems. One of which is that electricity simply isn't priced properly. Another is pretty large scale electricity theft. A third is that some of the biggest users who are government establishments do not pay.

Lawsn should be breaking down the issue to its component parts and proferring solutions to each of them instead of just blowing hot air.

Our problem is us.
We keep voting in the wrong leaders who swindle us. And we are too scared to call them to book.
We ourselves are not straight forward. We like bend-bend, mago-mago…. We are dishonest and that is why dishonest rulers keep on ruling us.
Sorry to mention UK again.
In the old days, everybody packed from their villages in UK and rushed to London, Manchester and other main cities.
However, since that area is deadly freezing cold, you need to burn a fire in your house to keep it warm.
Everyone used COAL to burn the fire. Imagine a city where every home is burning coal. The whole place is black with smoke and fog.
Their government said this cannot continue. It is a pollutant and a health hazard.
The solution was to use gas.
But not in gas cylinder like our own. The gas is piped to every house underground. You burn the gas to keep warm
Imagine the whole UK and America, if the gas pipes in the city leaks and catches fire.... Everybody will die.

Why doesn't this happen? Because they "educated" themselves on the dangers of gas leaks and the benefits of gas heating.
Everyone continues to enjoy their "pollution free" gas heating and No explosion gas leaking.

Education! Education is the solution.

Are we Educated in Nigeria? But we have certificates and cannot solve any of our problems?

Truly achieving sufficient and constant power in Nigeria isn't rocket science. It begins with removing Power from the Exclusive list and stop this National Grid nonsense. Allow private investors come in invest and see how things would fall on place.
