FAAN officials are interested parties if you see what I mean. The poor services provided by airport concessionaires makes this quite clear

People patronize uber & taxify because their prices are reasonable. These people are also Nigerians making a living. Ever since buhari became president Nigeria has become a socialist state where govt agencies try to regulate the rights of the common man.

Are car sharing drivers not citizens or what. I'm confused

Why can't FAAN encourage the taxi drivers to upgrade? Competition is necessary for fairness and choice options. Compelling everyone to enter cars mostly with no A/Cs and at exorbitant cost is most unfair.

Security wise, UBER is safer too. Any random guy with a bad motive can register to join the local cab operators which have no trackers installed

Airports should normally have options for bus and/or rail services as cheaper options. We have neither. Sad!

Wr have this crude mentality that hates decency. Why should they permit a situation where you exit the departure lounge and are accosted by a mob of taxi drivers baying for passengers like motorpark touts. Very indescent.

It is in the interest of FAAN to sanitise airports and keep them secure and user friendly and you will expect that a drop and go, made to order service such as Taxify will help them achieve that but the self serving, corrupt nature in our ways won't allow this so you drive to a typical airport and have to park hundreds of metres from the terminal because all the choice spots are taken by taxis soliciting customers thereby causing inconvenience for the real travellers.

Dead on arrival decision, so you want us to be saddled with those exploitive airport taxis. No way that's going to happen.....I learnt many FAAN officials have interest in the airport taxi business tongue tongue

Not every country in Europe allows Uber and a similar model. The Republic of Ireland doesn't want its regulated taxi industry to disrupt. That doesn't mean the country is not making the progress, they just don't want to fix what is not broken.
The FAAN probably have some regulatory arrangement with the Airport Taxi. Maybe someone should develop an app for the Airport taxi, covering all the 31 Airports in Nigeria. Twenty-six of these airports are controlled by FAAN and five are International.
Someone should bring a proposal to FAAN, NURTW, and AIRPORT TAXI, create an integrated application that will offer seamless service for users. Then let the uber drivers enroll in the program to pick passengers from and to the airport.

Devops:
Stupid.
The local taXi drivers should adjust, adapt and improvise. This is the 21st century for God's sake. You can't remain behind when the world is moving in the speed of light in technological advancement.
The local taxi drivers should upgrade or move to a more local area.
This is an airport for God's sake.
That's why we should always learn everyday, keep up with new technologies. Because not learning and upgrading is the smoking of the 21st century.

Did they also ban private vehicles? Because Uber is as good as a private vehicle.

How would they even know it is Uber?

Nigeria is not a communist state.

Never said it was. Competition may still be unfair. If we allow market forces to work, Uber by my calculations will still go under. It's only a matter of when.

grin grin grin

They won't because most of them do not have air conditioners in their jalopy besides uber and taxify rates does not fit into their exorbitant charge regime.

Oga. There are far too many taxis at our airports. They don't drop and go. They drop and park. They constitute an inconvenience with their crude attitude and mess up the whole place especially at Abuja. If they can be restricted to a maximum of fifty at any one time around the concorse it would be better. The drop and go, place to order operations of cybertaxis are far better for thr public.

Airports are built for travellers not for taxi operators. Thr sanity and welfare of the travelling public should be uppermost in the aspirations of FAAN.

Dangote Cement is tbr product of an import ban. Remove the import ban and set import duties low, Dangotes profits will nosedive. It will most likely suffer msssive losses. The beneficiaries will be Nigerians who will no longer be fleeced by this company.

Learnt price of cement per bag is $3.50 outside but $6 in Nigeria.

Nigeria has never thrived on competition that is why we are not making progress. Dangote because of his closeness to the FG enjoys tax reliefs and a crazy Monopoly. That's unfair.

You are correct and your mindset is progressive.
I can tell you the reason they stopped the uber and co from coming to the airport is, probably, that the airport taxi union must have had serious meetings with FAAN executive and dropped fat brown envelope.
If there is an app for airport shuttle and the drivers are enrolled in it, they will be forced to go out and bring customers and the people on Uber platforms can still be part of this.
This is a simple problem just need a little bit of innovation tweak and millions to be made. I am sure the people feeding fat on the status quo will not want this to happen.
Meanwhile, I agree 100% with your position.
