Ten years after he was first arraigned before a federal judge over a multi-billion naira money laundering suit, a former governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani, was re-arraigned before Justice Chuka Obiozor of a Lagos Division of the Federal High Court on December 4, 2017.

NEWS9NAIJA reports that Mr. Nnamani, who was governor of Enugu State between 1999 and 2007, is facing a 10-count charge of laundering N5.3 billion instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The former governor was first arraigned before Justice Abubakar Tijani in 2007 alongside Sunday Anyaogu, his aide; Rainbownet (Nig) Ltd; Hillgate (Nig) Ltd; Cosmo FM; Capital City Automobile (Nig) Ltd; Renaissance University Teaching Hospital; and Mea Mater Elizabeth High School.

Some of these companies like Rainbownet, Hillgate Nigeria, Cosmos FM, Capital City Automobile Nig Ltd, Renaissance University Teaching Hospital, and Mea Mater Elizabeth High School pleaded guilty while the case of Nnamani is still ongoing.

His forfeited assets are undeveloped properties and transmission equipment of Rainbownet Limited; property of Hill Gate Investment Limited/Cuena Phones Limited; assets of Cosmo 105.5FM, and 22 duplexes at Ebeano Estate (now Fidelity Estate).

Others are Rainbownet’s shares in Zenith Bank and Guaranty Trust Bank, with a combined account balance of N4.6 million; as well as money in its bank accounts worth about N34.8 million, and balance in 10 accounts with Access Bank.

Rainbownet’s undeveloped property forfeited include 7 plots at Independence Layout; 567.96 Square metres (Sqm) at Abakpa; 574.96 Sqm at Emene, and 2,951.98 Sqm, at Achara Layout.

Others forfeited include thousands of square metres of properties at Abia State, namely Ogbor Hill (914.633), Abayi (one and half plots), Port Harcourt Road (1,856.449), Ariaria (640.32), Umuagari (573.263), and Assannetu (954.396), as well as Abakiliki, Ebonyi State (one plot).

Also, in Onitsha, Anambra State, are Barracks (one plot), Nkpor (1088.644), Awada (465.14), Fegge (one plot), as well as 2,200.06 square miles of land at Okpumo, Awka.

With these properties already forfeited through a plea bargain which saw some of his pleading guilty, I am afraid, Chimaroke Nnamani may be convicted.

These forfeited properties must be returned to Enugu state at the conclusion of all cases.

He had forfeited properties acquired with the alleged money, so the next to be convicted should be Abdullahi adamu, tinubu, wammako or T. A Orji or Rochas

That will be after your suicide. Tinubu went to the Code of Conduct Tribunal and came out victorious. You cannot charge a man twice for the same allegation.

Impunity in high places, when you have the judiciary in your pockets, you walk any how you like. But what is coming cannot be stopped by the judicial arm

All this is just because he spoke up against the hate speech bill. Chimaroke's initial court case under a saner gvt has since been layed to rest. Why not let sleeping dogs lie. In our hearts of hearts we know that nobody at the helm of political affairs in Nigeria is clean. Yet we defend the gvt blindly when we see them attacking those of them who have managed to speak up against some evil. Let us forget our sectarian divides and for once call a spade a spade and not a garden implement. The current Regime is trying to take away our basic right to freedom of expression along with press freedom. There are strategically eliminating all dissenting voices. Disaster looms on the Nigerian horizon; while we argue over ethnic origins. Let human rights of every Nigerian be respected not just for the famous victims but also for the thief caught in the market place who also has a right to be assumed innocent until proven guilty
. Let the rule of law be respected by all. And let arrest and prosecution be just and fair, served to all who deserve it no matter what their rank, position or political affiliations. Let it not just against those who criticize the regime.
God help us but Nigerians let us help ourselves more.
