OP did not give enough info about his problem.

A doctor would like to know how long you have had this swelling and whether it is soft, hard, hurts, etc.
It appears you have had it for a long time and had used some traditional remedy because one can see some scar marks over the swelling.

I suspect this has grown over many years, maybe 5 years or more.
The swelling looks rounded, smooth, and is likely to be soft and painless.
Looks like a big lipoma to me but a doctor needs to examine it live to confirm.

The surgery is straightforward and the result is always good. Healing is within one week.
Nothing to worry about much.

P/S: It would be nice if somebody does not have anything meaningful to say, or is totally ignorant about a subject to keep quiet and read others.
Some responses on this thread are such a joke and laughable.

Please Medical personnel in the house, I will need your help. A friend has this lump in the chest close to the neck, he has gone for different test. He was later asked to do CT scan which he did and they said it is Tumor.

The issue now is the guy is so scared of going for the operation, I want to know first the likely cost of such operations, any side effect, any alternative to the operations. Any suggestion is welcomed.

Pls don't tell me that this is not hospital, we have exhausted our knowledge that's why I'm asking for suggestions from people that might have seen such cases and how it was handled.

Please I need your help on this.

Hope you find more courage required in dealing with this.
Believe, it can only get better.

It's some kind of a fat groose, he will need an excision, and it may cost him up to 100k

Could be an osteochondroma or even sarcoma. Less likely to be a lipoma.

See a general surgeon, get it excised and send for excisional biposy. There’s really no other alternative.

A stitch in time saves nine, they say.

No he was told is not cancerous

Please let him do the biopsy in several hospitals to be sure it's not cancerous. Our healthcare system is thrash, someone recently removed a tumour of such nature due to the doctors telling him it was benign at the end of the surgery dude couldn't walk for 5 minutes straight, he kept taking the drugs prescribed by the hospital until they asked him to stop and he did. The rate at which those cells proliferated back was faster than light and shut down every system in his body. Dude is dead and gone. Hospital started making excuses and begging to avoid a lawsuit.

PLEASE BE SURE IT'S NOT CANCEROUS TO AVOID STORIES.

Firstly, why did your friend leave it to grow that big?! What is wrong with you Nigerians? Now he'll pay hell to get it out.
Secondly, he should go for a biopsy to check if it's cancerous or benign. If it's benign, he's in luck, if it's cancerous, then I'm sorry, he might have condemned himself to pain and suffering by waiting this long.
As for the price, (if it's benign), it should be between 150-250k, surgeries are that cheap in Nigeria.

That surgery could be anything but straightforward. Yes, surely the patient has had the lump for 3-5 or more years, so I can bet the tumour has taken root deep inside his chest and might probably have a very very complex blood supply, probably taking root from his cardiac vessels.

This is a giant subcutaneous lipoma very likely and is generally a benign tumor which is noncancerous and can easily be removed via lipoma excision surgery by a surgeon.

The cost of this operation will vary across personnels and establishments but will cost around 30-50k but surgical removal, however, can become more expensive especially when the tumor have a high degree of post-op complications occasioned by the location. for instance a lipoma on the scrotal sac or close to the heart.

By side effects i believe u mean possible complications of the excision procedure. Generally the prognosis of excision procedures are good but this depends on the location of the tumor. The surgeon working on your friend will be cautious of the superior vena cava, the brachiocephalic vein and the subclavian vein which are important anatomical structures that surround the location of this tumor. This means he will chose where to cut carefully but it's nothing to worry about.

There's no alternative as long as this fellow wants this stuff out. I am sure it's affecting his quality of life imagine putting on a cloth for this bulge to appear below the neck. He should go for the surgery.

My chief. I hail u sir.
