Nigeria To Renew Gernot Rohr’s Contract With Conditions by ijustdey: 9:30am On Dec 27, 2019
As Nigerians look forward to the New Year with better performances from the country’s national football teams, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has revealed plans to renew the contract of Super Eagles Head Coach, Gernot Rohr for another term.

The Franco-German who was contracted in 2016 for an initial two-year contract has been threatening to open talks with other countries if the NFF fails to speak on a new deal for him before the end of next month.

But yesterday, President of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick said in Lagos that Rohr’s contract will be renewed but with stringent conditions that includes him staying in Nigeria.

“We are going to renew Rohr’s contract with Nigeria before it expires. Unlike the previous contract, we are going to insist now that he stays in Nigeria with accommodation for him in which ever city he prefers between Abuja and Lagos,” revealed the NFF chief during a media parley in Lagos yesterday.

Rohr’s initial monthly salary of $45,000 was increased to $55,000 after he qualified Nigeria for the World Cup in Russia as well as the AFCON 2019.

Part of Rohr’s new contract will be to have a harmonious working relationship with the federation’s Technical Committee.

“He should be ready to work with the Technical Committee. We don’t want repeat of some of the things that created problems to happen again as we aim to move the game forward in the New Year.”

Although, there have been subtle move by the gaffer to get the Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, to intervene on his contract matter, it is believed that the minister made it known to him that only the NFF have the right to decide whether to keep him or ask him to take a work from the job.

On the position of the Sports Minister not happy with the state of the game in the out going year, Pinnick said the minister has every right to speak on our performance as the head of sports in the country.

“Don’t forget the minister is the chief sports officer of the country. We don’t feel bad he spoke his mind on the state of football in Nigeria. We believe his intervention is bound to be a wake up call for us and the players,” stressed Pinnick who is looking forward to the New Year with enthusiasm.

“Year 2020 is full of so much promise for Nigeria football. We have the qualifiers for both the AFCON 2021 and the World Cup 2022. We need to get our acts right from the first kick of the ball in the New Year because there are no longer minnows in African football.

As part of the plans to put the administration of the game in proper perspective in the 2020, Pinnick hinted of plans for the NFF to relocate to the Sunday Dankaro House after years at the Glass House the federation has shared with the Federal Road Safety Commission.

“I want to assure you that the NFF secretariat will relocate to the Sunday Dankaro House before the end of January.”

He also hinted that cadet players that have contracts with football agents will no longer be tolerated in the Golden Eaglets.

Nigeria’s cadet teams (U-17, U-20 and U-23), floundered in continental tournaments in the out-going year, rubbishing the image the country has made over the years as a super-power in youth football.

To stem the influence of football agents in the national teams, the NFF has now warned that any player that has any contract will no longer be allowed to play for Eaglets.

“We have now realized the disruptive influence of these football agents to our preparations for major tournaments as was seen in the out going year. Henceforth, any player who has any link to any agent will be shut out of our team,” Pinnick concluded.

You just have to give it to Amaju Melvin Pinnick, an astute football administrator who has turn our football around for the good.

One thing I admire about Pinnick is that, when he gives you a job to do for him, you just have to deliver else you get booted out be you foreign or local manager.

Now to Gernot Rohr, I will have to say that he has transformed the SE and make the green and White Jersey so competitive for the local and foreign players..... BUT, his style of play is Flat and not dynamic.... He should add a little bit of flair to his tactics and watch his lad go past the Quarter Final target at world stage.

Good looking out to him and his backroom staff.

Let the Eagles soar high.

NFF don't want this man again
He can't accept that shiiiti contract
How can you tell a coach to give you the list of his first eleven b4 going for any match so that the Technical Committee will check them

That Amaju Pinnick is viewed as a successful NFF chairman is a tragedy. NFF should be LESS of national teams and MORE of doing things to develop the game of football locally. In short, NFF ought to do on national level what FIFA does on international level.

- This means NFF supposed to create age-group tournaments for affiliate 36 state FAs as well as organize technical academy camp for identified elite talents during school long vacation. At present, no such things exist.
- NFF ought to brainstorm and work tirelessly to get Female football working. For example, explore making the First Lady Aisha Buhari a patron of female football and working to leverage her support to organize league and establish First Lady cup competition that would even outlast her. At present, our female football is marginal and Amaju Pinnick has no plan to raise the bar.
- NFF under Amaju Pinnick supposed to have deliberately instituted transparent/accountable relationship framework or even internal legislations that would raise confidence of potential corporate sponsors and make them put money on table. No such thing exists.
- What of domesticating FIFA procedures by making international transfer of Nigerian players smoother and easier instead creating unnecessary bottlenecks to extort money.
- NFF ought to organize periodic continuous training of local coaches and strategic exposure for national coaches and assistant coaches. At present, no such things exist except that coaches are simply recycled to tinker with age-group national teams with their limited knowledge and earn estacodes for sharing.
- Who is NFF Head of Local Football Development the version of what Arsene Wenger is at FIFA to link up with him to see how Nigeria football would benefit from various programmes.

At present NFF is about estacodes and FIFA largesse. As far as I am concerned, given how dynamic and smart he appears and carries himself, Amaju Pinnick performed below expectations apart solving the perennial allowance problem with national teams' allowances at tourneys.

Nigeria is settling for mediocrity. This gaffe isn't doing jack. The team play hasn't improved since he took charge. What do I knw

Is Nigeria gallant enough to employ a better Coach/Manager than GR? I think its a NO, the NFF have a very big problem of its own and it is affecting everything associated to the Federation including the Coaches and Players.

Transform NFF & We've Transformed the Super Eagles.

The essence of him to stay back in Nigeria is to be able to monitor our players in the local league ... but I am sorry the league is not organized .

I am still wondering why no single talent came out to displace on player in the whole of 2019 ...

Maybe Rohr will have to start combing the street and our grass root ... same way Clement Westerhouff did .

I hear the stupid NFF is planning to absolve Rohr of complete power over player selection.
They want to re-introduce their corrupt practices by accepting bribes from willing agents in exchange for player call up.

God punish una

Not too much to ask of Mr Rohr,
especially when you are earning almost #20,000,000 in a month!

Why!

He does not have the Basketball tactics that is much needed in our football

FIFA should just go for a Tiger Woods or Justin Bieber.
