I know you will be wondering how this could be possible by turning normal or convensional ups we use at home and our offices into an inverter.

Ups is a short name for uninterrupted power supply which means that it can withhold power when there is power failure from the power grid (NEPA). The ups has an internal small battery which does the actual backup of 40min-1hour depending on the number s and size of capacity of internal battery.

Ups is an electronics machine which it is actual work is to convert it's internal direct current (dc) battery to alternating current(ac). In order to power any load connected to it because all the loads we use such as bulb,computer, tv etc can only be powered by alternating current and not direct current. That is what makes an ups an inverter with a uniqueness. Because it has the features of a pure wine wave inverter.

Since the backup time of the ups depends on the actual number and size of capacity of the internal battery therefore a big capacity of battery of 100ah or 200ah's can be used if we want to have a long hours of back up with the load in the house or office.

Features of UPS as a pure wine wave inverter
1. It regulates voltage during fluctuation
2. It provides quality power to load
3. It provides constant voltage
4 it serves as isolation between mains and load

How to use ups as inverter with bigger size of battery
Step 1
Open the ups by Unscrewing the casing cover

Step2
Carefully locate the batrery inside if the battery has not been removed. Pull the black and red wire connected to the battery and remove the battery. If it is Ups without battery carefully find the red and black wire removed from the battery.

Step3
Those two black and red wire are not long enough to connect to a battery you would want to use outside of the ups as inverter. What you would do is to get a 10 or 4mm wire and join them. Then tape the naked wire to avoid short circuit.

Step 5
pass them outside of the ups casing and cover up. Then try to use cable lug at the tip of the black and red wire in order to be easy for you to be connect them to the battery you want to use.

Step 6
Get any inverter battery of your choice of 45ah,75ah, 100ah, 200ah and connect the red to red and black to black on the battery.

Step 7
Finally you will need a 12 volt charger that will charge the battery since you are using a big battery capacity than the size of the ups battery.

Step 8
You are set to enjoy your inverter like no other

Note the ups plug and the charger plug has to be connected to the wall socket of either NEPA or gen so that both can charge the battery at a time .

Benefit: try it at home and you will definitely enjoy it. It is very cost effective and economical and Reduces cost of fuel.

Solar panel can be added to it if you want, especially those who are in an area where there is no electricity .....( this set up can carry tv, fan,laptop, decoder, bulbs ,)

Pls note: 650va ups can only carry maximum load of 400w while 1.5kva can handle a maximum load of 800w.. please don't exceed the max load of the ups to avoid damaging it . And use led bulbs only

Get a battery charger plugged on wall socket to charge the battery
Step 8

To do that you will need to know first the total load in your house.
Supposed you have:
1. TV 50"....60w
2. Decoder ...25w
3.fan 62".....80w
4. 10 lights each 25w.x10=250w

Total power ...415w
What is the capacity of ups/inverter to carry the load (415w)

We divide the the power load (415w) by
one of the standardd power factor (0.8, 0.7,0.6)
That will give us ...415/0.7 =519va

Therefore we will need 600va or 650va inverter/ups to carry the load.

Note that It is recommended to chose inverter/ ups bigger than the one we need.

HOW TO CALCULATE BATTERY BACKUP TIME.
supposed we have 2 batteries of 200ah/12v and a total load 415w. How many hours will the battery last?

Firstly multiply the battery voltage by the amp hour.
200ah x 12v =2400wh x2 =4800wh
Divide by the load ..4800wh/415w =11hrs.5min

Our backup time will 11hrs.5min but due to the battery can not drop to 0% to prolong the battery lifesspan we will maintain the battery DOD to 50% that will give us 6hrs.


HOE TO CALCULATE INVERTER /UPS CHARGING CURRENT.

Firstly find out the inverter vdc(voltage direct current) which is usually ranges from 12vdc-180vdc above

If my inverter/ ups is a 12v ( that is for one 12v battery) the charging current will be 10% of the battery ah. That is 10/100 =0.1
0.1x 200 = 20a..
Therefore a 12v inverter of any given capacity charging 200ah battery has about 20a charging current.

HOW TO CALCULATE CHARGING TIME
that will be battery ah divide by charging current.

200ah/20a = 10hrs

HOW TO CALCULATE NO OF SOLAR PANEL FOR YOUR BATTERY
suppose you have one 200ah/12v battery and u need solar to charge in the absent of power supply.
It is simple. First know your battery charging current as calculated above 200ah battery charging current is 20a and the battery is 12v.

Power is v x a i.e 12 x 20 =240w

We need 240w solar panel to charge our battery
Note it is recommended we use panel bigger than the one we need in this case we will need 480w panel for proper charging .

All these challenges are what i will treat here to enable you have confidence in yourself with no doubt of your potentiality. Though, if you have no engineering bases you can still be able to do it with ease.

We shall commence in doing the calculation one after the other.

Locate the internal connected battery(ies) and disconnect them ( if with two battries check if the batteries are connected in series it is a 24v ups which requires two battries compulsorly but if connected in parallel it is a 12v which can use either one or two battery .)

Step3
Those two wires of black and red are your positive and negative . Cut off heat and Strip the insulation part to use.

Step 5
Get a flex wire of black and red and connect to them togethe to extend wire length and tape with an insulation tape.

Step 6
Get any inverter battery of your choice of 45ah,75ah, 100ah, 200ah as u can afford and connect the wires from the ups to the battery and tighten properly.

Step 7
Get a battery charger to charge the battery and have it plugged on wall socket to charge the battery when there is power supply

Step 8
Now you good to go to power any appliances in your house.

Connect any load you want to use with it to the back of the ups socket

Get a flex wire of black and red and connect to them togethe to extend wire length and tape with an insulation tape.

Step 6
Get any inverter battery of your choice of 45ah,75ah, 100ah, 200ah as u can afford and connect the wires from the ups to the battery and tighten properly.

Step 7
Get a battery charger to charge the battery and have it plugged on wall socket to charge the battery when there is power supply

Now you good to go to power any appliances in your house.

Connect any load you want to use with it to the back of the ups socket

Divide by the load ..4800wh/415w =11hrs.5min

Our backup time will 11hrs.5min but due to the battery can not drop to 0% to prolong the battery lifesspan we will maintain the battery DOD to 50% that will give us 6hrs.

Locate the internal connected battery(ies) and disconnect them ( if with two battries check if the batteries are connected in series it is a 24v ups which requires two battries compulsorly but if connected in parallel it is a 12v which can use either one or two battery .)

Step3
Those two wires of black and red are your positive and negative . Cut off heat and Strip the insulation part to use.

Step 5
Get a flex wire of black and red and connect to them togethe to extend wire length and tape with an insulation tape.

Step 6
Get any inverter battery of your choice of 45ah,75ah, 100ah, 200ah as u can afford and connect the wires from the ups to the battery and tighten properly.

Step 7
Get a battery charger to charge the battery and have it plugged on wall socket to charge the battery when there is power supply

Step 8
Now you good to go to power any appliances in your house.

Connect any load you want to use with it to the back of the ups socket

Note that It is recommended to chose inverter/ ups bigger than the one we need.

HOW TO CALCULATE BATTERY BACKUP TIME.
supposed we have 2 batteries of 200ah/12v and a total load 415w. How many hours will the battery last?

Firstly multiply the battery voltage by the amp hour.
200ah x 12v =2400wh x2 =4800wh
Divide by the load ..4800wh/415w =11hrs.5min

Our backup time will 11hrs.5min but due to the battery can not drop to 0% to prolong the battery lifesspan we will maintain the battery DOD to 50% that will give us 6hrs.

Thank you for checking for this new innovation. One thing I want you to know is that ups( uninterrupted power supply) can be used as inverter. It is what Many of us don't have the idea of on what the ups can do apart from the short time back it does.

Due to its good functionality and features many inverter nowadays have ups mode selefftionode you can switch on between to prevent interruption of power during power failure.

UPS has has some features and merit over sachet inverters.
1. It regulates voltage during fluctuation
2. It provides quality power to load
3. It provides constant voltage
4 it serves as isolation btw mains and load

How to turn it into inverter for use

Step 1
Unscrew the ups casing

Step2
Locate the internal connected battery(ies) and disconnect them ( if with two battries check if the batteries are connected in series it is a 24v ups which requires two battries compulsorly but if connected in parallel it is a 12v which can use either one or two battery .)

Step3
Those two wires of black and red are your positive and negative . Cut off heat and Strip the insulation part to use.

Step 5
Get a flex wire of black and red and connect to them togethe to extend wire length and tape with an insulation tape.

Step 6
Get any inverter battery of your choice of 45ah,75ah, 100ah, 200ah as u can afford and connect the wires from the ups to the battery and tighten properly.

Step 7
Get a battery charger to charge the battery and have it plugged on wall socket to charge the battery when there is power supply

Step 8
Now you good to go to power any appliances in your house.

Connect any load you want to use with it to the back of the ups socket

This can save you cost instead of buying inverter of high cost . It is cheap and affordable
Suitable for a room , self contained , mini flat and 2bedroom flat. Is what use too.
Total of this cannot cost you more 40k, 50k, 60k,70k depending your batterychoice.


HOW TO KNOW THE CAPACITY OF INVERTER/UPS TO CARRY YOUR LOAD
To do that you will need to know first the total load in your house.
Supposed you have:
1. TV 50"....60w
2. Decoder ...25w
3.fan 62".....80w
4. 10 lights each 25w.x10=250w

Total power ...415w
What is the capacity of ups/inverter to carry the load (415w)

We divide the the power load (415w) by
one of the standardd power factor (0.8, 0.7,0.6)
That will give us ...415/0.7 =519va

Therefore we will need 600va or 650va inverter/ups to carry the load.

Note that It is recommended to chose inverter/ ups bigger than the one we need.

HOW TO CALCULATE BATTERY BACKUP TIME.
supposed we have 2 batteries of 200ah/12v and a total load 415w. How many hours will the battery last?

Firstly multiply the battery voltage by the amp hour.
200ah x 12v =2400wh x2 =4800wh
Divide by the load ..4800wh/415w =11hrs.5min

Our backup time will 11hrs.5min but due to the battery can not drop to 0% to prolong the battery lifesspan we will maintain the battery DOD to 50% that will give us 6hrs.


HOE TO CALCULATE INVERTER /UPS CHARGING CURRENT.

Firstly find out the inverter vdc(voltage direct current) which is usually ranges from 12vdc-180vdc above

If my inverter/ ups is a 12v ( that is for one 12v battery) the charging current will be 10% of the battery ah. That is 10/100 =0.1
0.1x 200 = 20a..
Therefore a 12v inverter of any given capacity charging 200ah battery has about 20a charging current.

HOW TO CALCULATE CHARGING TIME
that will be battery ah divide by charging current.

200ah/20a = 10hrs

HOW TO CALCULATE NO OF SOLAR PANEL FOR YOUR BATTERY
suppose you have one 200ah/12v battery and u need solar to charge in the absent of power supply.
It is simple. First know your battery charging current as calculated above 200ah battery charging current is 20a and the battery is 12v.

Power is v x a i.e 12 x 20 =240w

We need 240w solar panel to charge our battery
Note it is recommended we use panel bigger than the one we need in this case we will need 480w panel for proper charging .

pass them outside of the ups casing and cover up. Then try to use cable lug at the tip of the black and red wire in order to be easy for you to be connect them to the battery you want to use.

Step 6
Get any inverter battery of your choice of 45ah,75ah, 100ah, 200ah and connect the red to red and black to black on the battery.

Step 7
Finally you will need a 12 volt charger that will charge the battery since you are using a big battery capacity than the size of the ups battery.

Step 8
You are set to enjoy your inverter like no other

Note the ups plug and the charger plug has to be connected to the wall socket of either NEPA or gen so that both can charge the battery at a time .

Benefit: try it at home and you will definitely enjoy it. It is very cost effective and economical and Reduces cost of fuel.

Solar panel can be added to it if you want, especially those who are in an area where there is no electricity .....( this set up can carry tv, fan,laptop, decoder, bulbs ,)
