What you all fail to realize is that Iran won't fight a conventional war with US, there are a thousand and one things they could do to US, no US citizen will be safe outside of US and Europe, thousands of militias will attack US bases across the world, they will strike, kill several soldiers and run before airsupport arrives, the strait of hormuz will be blocked and oil prices will skyrocket, all that the Iranian military needs to do is defend and they are very capable of doing that. Unlike Iraq, they have capable air defense systems and that alone has neutralised US airforce power. They might not have aircraft carriers or numerous frigates, but they have thousands of fast attack boats capable of lunching several rockets. Do the maths, how many rockets can a US carrier group defend against.
Even at that, they will be using missiles worth millions of dollars to defend against rockets that worth less than $100. They don't have the power to confront you directly, but the way ants swarm bigger beast, they will use their proxies to attack everything US in the middle east and when the US decides to attack them, Russia will be forced to defend Iran. They cannot afford to lose their most powerful ally in the middle east nor can they afford to have another neighboring country being overrun by US and becoming a potential base for future attacks against Russia.
