Why Chad Withdrew Troops From Nigeria by ijustdey: 2:09pm On Jan 06, 2020
The recent decision by Chad to withdraw its troops assisting Nigerian Soldiers in the fight against Boko Haram under the aegis of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF) may not be unconnected with the closure of borders by the Federal Government, The Nation has learnt.
Although highly placed Military source claimed the Chadian troops were withdrawn because it has accomplished the task for which it was drafted.

But a reliable source within the military cycle, who doesn’t want his name mentioned, told our correspondent in an exclusive chat that the Chadian troops and those of other countries participating in the Joint Taskforce were supposed to be deployed along the borders of their respective countries and can only deploy troops in the country when requested to so do.
According to the source, the modus operandi is for the troops to patrol the borders and ensure that Boko Haram fighters do not escape into their countries.

He said that with the closure of the border, there was no need for the troops to continue to remain, “I think Chad pulled out their troops as a result of the closure of the Nigerian border because they cannot just remain without doing anything”.

However, the position was countered by another senior Military Officer who pleaded anonymity.
He insisted that the withdrawal of the Chadian troops has nothing to do with the closure of the border but was as a result of the fact that the Boko Haram insurgency has been decimated.

The Chadian authority said that it was withdrawing their troops in Nigeria because they have completed their mission.

Meanwhile, the Defence Headquarters has kept mute about the development. The Acting Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, when contacted did not pick his calls or reply to the text sent to his phone.

But speaking briefly on the development, the Spokesperson of the Multinational Joint Taskforce, Colonel Timothy Antigha, said that Chad has not pulled out from the Joint Taskforce but has only withdrawn its troop deployed to Nigeria.

He said: “The issues should not be mixed up. Chad has not pulled out of the MJTF but has only withdrawn its troop deployed to Nigeria”.

Antigha also stated that the withdrawal of the Chadian troops has not affected the operations of the Taskforce in Northeast.

At least we agree that the Northern border is also closed, that is the first step in the right direction.

Both sources agree their pressence in Nigeria would be unnecessary. It's not their job to protect Nigeria. They're only trying to keep the Nigerian contagion contained. I wonder if some people thought they were stay for the next decade.

Nigerians should worry about protecting themselves. It's not reasonable to expect these countries to guarantee your internal security.

Buhari does not like the N700bn recurrent expenditures on security.
The bulk of this money is to pay allowances to soldiers deployed for Boko Haram and other internal security issues like bandits in NW...including MNJTF Chadian soldiers.

A great part of the 700bn would buy weapons and technology that will permanently solve the problem

Our borders that are super porous, won't be surprised if, those criminals that had escaped to neighboring countries come back to cause havoc on innocent northerners.

ISWAP decimated on newpapers? But we wey dey inside bush especially here in Monguno know how far.

Even yesterday ISWAP showed up close to a camp here before 2 jet fighters and a Helicopter responded long after they have left.

Even when ISWAP wants to attack any location they always ask if the Chadians are nearby.

The Nigeria Military needs to take this war seriously especially here in Borno North senatorial zone where ISWAP is roaming freely in five LGAs. Baga, Marte, Kukawa,Abadam and Gudzamala LGAs. Lemme dont mention Nganzai and Magumeri or Gubio.

Thus war is just the more you look the less you see.

However, the NSA and Chief of Army staff are from Borno state.

May God keep us all safe

The same Boko haram that has been 'technically defeated'

Chadian authorities just discovered that it's a political war and not worth the lives of their soldiers.

Truly, the border closure greatly helped to clip the BH wings to conquerable level, as seen lately ,hence those foreign troops can be withdrawn.

Lies

The last report was explicit enough and it put it that their agreement came to an end so why are they connecting it to border closure again. They must sha call the dog a bad name to hang it.

Closing the border was never an economic blunder. Even US did something similar. Those neighbours were too much parasites. Only unpatriotic Nigerians especially those smuggling goods were embittered by the border closure. We should criticize constructively.

cool

Sambisa is now peaceful bro. The real threats in Nigeria is Lake Chad Basin. Any Soldier deployed to Borno North (Baga,Gubio,Magumeri,Abadam,Marte, Kukawa and Gudzamala) is almost like a death sentence.

My Soldier friends in Sambisa areas (Pulka,Gwoza,Bitta,Damboa) axis are enjoying their stay because Shekau Bokoharam which control that axis can't pull any stunts like before since the separation.

ISWAP is which controls Borno North and Borno Central is what we are scared off...
