You shouldn't be like the Pharisees who knew every law, every rule, every historical events and lived their life according to the law. . .you should instead seek to let Jesus grow in you on a daily basis, that is the only way you can tell what is a sin before God and what is not.

Simply reading Bible passages will give you the knowledge. . .it's just like reading any other book. . .but the only way you can be truly saved from sin is communing on a regular basis with the Holy Spirit!

Don't seek Bible passages to justify what is right and what is wrong. . . . if you do, you will be attempting to win your own salvation, which will never be possible. . .the Bible says Jesus is the only way to the Father. . .therefore, seek for a closer communion with him, only he can tell you if drinking is wrong or not!

Besides, i think most of the verses have been quoted out of context. . .i observe that most people just lift a verse from Bible to suit their own need at a point in time or the other. . .this is not exactly the right way to go about things

Drink or biblical wine/spirit is a depressant and it puts to in the sub-conscious.
Hence very good. Especially for pastors and religious people.

Drink = Holy Spirit. grin

please, what is biblical standard on alcohol.

Have read different article on this topic but am not yet convinced.

Let me hear your view.

@Otoks

Otoks, "no oofeinse", as my good friend Mr Cork aka MrCrackles would say

but really this is tantamount to a destitute of knowledge

- Haba, one still does see when one is crying now. Bible? Read the book naaa!

Please recognise the distinction between DRINK and DRUNK

Drinking alcohol per se is not a sin

The rule of thumb is, if you cant stand the heat, stay away from the kitchen

If you cant handle drink (i.e. can't stay sober with full control of your faculties) then lay off the bottle

In moderation and not in excess is the watchword

There are numerous warnings of the consequences of where drinking has gone too far in bible.

Wumine has generously highlighted and provided the experiences

Ephesian 5:18 BBE:

BBE is Bible in Basic English

And do not take overmuch wine by which one may be overcome, but be full of the Spirit;

The bible has hinted or would rather you have a Holy Ghost party - i.e. get drunk with the Holy Spirit rather get drunk with wine wink wink

Drinking might flip to a sin for a christian, if the christian does a DUI - Driving under the Influence

(i.e. operates a motor vehicle while the blood alcohol content in the body is above the legal limit set by laws of the land)

I think the emphasis has always been on drunkenness, and not drinking per se.

Who are you to judge me Mr. Self-righteous-I-will-get-to-heaven-before-you? The poster asked a question and I answered it by giving biblical references. I don’t know what is bad in that! And why shouldn’t I seek the word of God to justify what is good or bad?
Since you have a personal rapport with the Holy Spirit and know the right way to do things, why not give the poster a direct answer to his question

Re: Is It A Sin For A Christian To Drink Alcohol? by Nobody: 11:54am On Dec 07, 2010
what crap are you talking about.

Gluttony is a sin in the bible. Does that mean we shouldn't eat. Fasting is a good thing in the bible, will it be a sin if I don't fast?

NA WAH FOR UNA.

EVEN DRINKING TOO MUCH WATER CAUSES MEDICAL PROBLEMS.

MODESTY IS THE WORD. MODESTY! SHOULD I SPELL IT FOR YOUR DUMB ARSES?

THOSE OF YOU WHO QUOTED WHERE THE BIBLE TALKED AGAINST DRUNKENNESS SHOULD ALSO SEARCH AND FIND WHERE THE BIBLE DID NOT CONDEM MODERATE DRINKING.

HABA!

Any Church/Pastor that preaches against drinking is only trying to INDOCTRINATE you pure and simple.

Jesus Christ himself said in Matthew 15:11
"Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man."

Study the Bible for your self and stop taking others' interpretation.

Some people just see discussions and jump into it without clearly having tangible stuff to contribute. Drinking of achohol is no sin. It will only be a sin when you dont moderate it. Fellas, tongue tongue tongue tongue
Re: Is It A Sin For A Christian To Drink Alcohol? by livedit(f): 8:44pm On Dec 07, 2010
This is a sticky subject.  When taking communion, wine is usually given to represent the blood of Christ and a piece of bread/cracker is to represent the body of Christ Jesus.  My church home I attend substitutes grape juice instead of wine.  But I'm sure not all churches still do that this day in age.  I don't drink either alcohol or wine.  smiley

Edited to add: I'm sorry, I didn't realize this board are for muslims only. I'm a Christian, not muslim. I'm withdrawing from this discussion. Please forgive me everyone!

This is what God told you to do with the Tithe He commanded of you. He said you should buy alcohol or any other kind of drink you prefer.... grin

Deuteronomy 14 vs 22 -29 ERV
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
22 Every year you must be sure to save one-tenth(tithe) of all the crops that grow in your fields.
23 Then you must go to the place the Lord chooses to be the home for his name. You will go there to be with the Lord your God. At that place you will eat the tenth(tithe) of your crops, one-tenth of your grain, your new wine, your oil, and the first animals born in your herds and flocks. In this way you will always remember to respect the Lord your God.
24 But that place might be too far for you to travel to. Maybe you will not be able to carry one-tenth(tithe) of all the crops that the Lord has blessed you with. If that happens,
25 sell that part of your crops and take the money with you to the special place the Lord has chosen.
26 Use the money to buy anything you want:cattle, sheep, wine or beer or any other food. Then you and your family should eat and enjoy yourselves there in that place with the Lord your God.
27 But don't forget the Levites living in your town. Share your food with them because they don't have a share of the land like you have.
28 At the end of every three years, you must gather one-tenth of your harvest for that year. Store this food in your towns.
29 Keep this food for the Levites, because they don't have any land of their own. Also keep this food for the foreigners, orphans, and widows who live in your towns. This will provide enough for them to come and eat all they want. If you do this, the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do.
