I think the lady grew up in the north and the parents in the north that make it possible for the OP. In my south south, even the family want to pity you, the community no go gree for this low budget traditional wedding.

Personally I don't like flamboyant weddings but you see my sweet mama? She'll have none of it, lol and I'll do whatever will make her happy. Wedding is a one day stuff but with a memory that'll last a lifetime, Whichever way you do it now that seems to be trendy will be so obsolete when you're discussing to your grandchildren tomorrow so just do what makes you and those around you happy and also within your means.

They were lucky to have escaped poverty as a result of their irrational decision. Marriage is not a do or die affair, if you can't afford it, stay single

Keep working, praying and improving on your finance, don't be in a rush, focus on improving your current financial earnings pls, don't marry with that salary, it has landed so many Nigerians into generational poverty, and reason we have so many poor Nigerians today.

It's a lie.
In Yoruba land, It all boils down to individual family. There are some family that are peaceful and well coordinated while there are some disaster family....
After hausa marriage, I think Yoruba marriage is the cheapest to do. (Depending on the family)
There was one ijebu lady that was expecting me to do elaborate wedding , I told her about what I can afford thinking that she will shift her goal post a bit but she disagree. So we both parted ways because of that simple difference. Up till now she hasnt find anybody to marry....
