Oine.....me I'm planning a wedding without reception this year with my fiancee. She has agreed to a wedding without reception after persuasion and reasoning along with me. Such ladies are rare. I know people who went into borrowing because of wedding ceremony. I admire your courage oine
My fiancee doesn't want to reason along that line with me....I must get married before the year runs out , God willing.

I think the lady grew up in the north and the parents in the north that make it possible for the OP. In my south south, even the family want to pity you, the community no go gree for this low budget traditional wedding.

May God help me find this kind lady and this kind family.....very understandable

Such families exists- those that don't believe in flamboyant traditional and church weddings.... However, even if it will be small wedding, let it be classy with beautiful cakes and pixs.

*Edo state has cheap bride price, some will say N4naira, but u will go and 'buy' it(lol)....Akwa Ibom/Cross River is expensive like the East. Delta State will be in-between depending on individual families(or affordable).

Personally I don't like flamboyant weddings but you see my sweet mama? She'll have none of it, lol and I'll do whatever will make her happy. Wedding is a one day stuff but with a memory that'll last a lifetime, Whichever way you do it now that seems to be trendy will be so obsolete when you're discussing to your grandchildren tomorrow so just do what makes you and those around you happy and also within your means.

Stop lying to yourself. It's not just your mum. You like flamboyant weddings too.

I have a dream, but it is getting much longer to execute it.
In fact I just want to be happy and free from over thinking.

If you can't change the date you want to marry, maybe you can change the person you want to marry, if she is not ready

I don't think it is desperation for marriage, rather it is desire to keep her man and the love she has for him. She loves him wella
You're right... They are some overdue and over ripe ladies at there... They wouldn't settle for this kind of marriage arrangement. Kudo to the both, It's not easy.

It all boils down to you meeting a good woman free from peer and societal influence. The North you are based in is added advantage because Money has value there.

Nyamiri and Calabar ladies, oya , over to you.
I know for sure that portharcourt ladies work for their men to eat but not nyamiri ladies.
The bad and archaic tradition by their ancestors has affected a lot of Igbo marriages.
In Igbo land, ladies are just like a commodity in a shelf ...waiting for higher bidder patronage..
There's one ifeoma in my office that has been showing me all kind of green signs to be my bosom friend I retarded her.... ifeoma is approaching 36 years old yet no suitor.....

Don't try what the op said he did, its not advisable, its only good for reading and entertainment not to be practiced.

They were lucky to have escaped poverty as a result of their irrational decision. Marriage is not a do or die affair, if you can't afford it, stay single

Keep working, praying and improving on your finance, don't be in a rush, focus on improving your current financial earnings pls, don't marry with that salary, it has landed so many Nigerians into generational poverty, and reason we have so many poor Nigerians today.

What if they didn't get a job??

...

What's the difference between an underemployed bf and gf, and an underemployed husband and wife? There financial situation is still thesame if they don't have kids.

They may even be better off married because now they pay only one rent instead of two separate rents, nepa bills, and other expenses that can then be combined. Its cheaper for two people to live together than separately, that's why we get flatmates or room mates.

The only exception is with house wives and house husbands who would depend on the other party exclusively. But two employed people that can each take care of their own personal needs, would definitely save money by living together.

In summary,

If you avoid big weddings, postpone child bearing to focus on your goals, and temporarily avoid family demands, then getting married makes more financial sense than staying in a long term relationship, provided both parties have sense.

Firstly, congratulations. This is very doable and we must understand that Marriage isn’t wedding. The institution of marriage is bed-rocked on growth both financially, physically and socially. Since growth is constant , no one can say when or where to start, the beginning of marriage is a decision away.

It's a lie.
In Yoruba land, It all boils down to individual family. There are some family that are peaceful and well coordinated while there are some disaster family....
After hausa marriage, I think Yoruba marriage is the cheapest to do. (Depending on the family)
There was one ijebu lady that was expecting me to do elaborate wedding , I told her about what I can afford thinking that she will shift her goal post a bit but she disagree. So we both parted ways because of that simple difference. Up till now she hasnt find anybody to marry....
