Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Manchester United are still one of the world's top clubs capable of competing for the biggest players despite concerns over falling revenues.

United are third in the latest Deloitte Football Money League behind Barcelona and Real Madrid, but the prediction for next year has raised concerns that they could be usurped as the English Premier League's most profitable club by Manchester City or Liverpool.

Although United's revenue rose from £589.8m (N277bn) to £627.1m (N295.9bn), the forecast for next year is £560-£580m (N263-N272.8bn) due mainly to their failure to qualify for this season's Champions League. City were sixth this year with £538.2m (N253bn) and Liverpool seventh with £533m (N250.9bn).

However, Solskjaer brushed off suggestions that United could be overtaken by their two biggest rivals, saying:

We are still up there, so still in a good place.

For me, the most important thing is we get results sorted and get performances on the pitch.

That's got to be my focus but I know we've got the resources and we've got the backing if we need to go into the transfer market.
