The children in question are adults they may have thier reasons , whether acceptable or not ...
BTW men should learn to care for thier children , gone are those days when you let your wife suffer to take care of the kids , and you tell yourself , that the children would come to look for you in the future after they are accomplished . Any body tries that with a child like me , you'll be finished , i totally would have nothing to do with you even if you come back yourself to beg ...take care of your kids , cos if you don't , there's always a repercussion you wouldn't like or expect ..
I'm not saying that's what happened in funke's case , I'm just putting this out !

It's possible to trace the cause of the man's death to abandonment and hatred from his kids which MOST PROBABLY was instigated by the wife. Fear women. No news about the wife. MEN, marry your friend, not your enemy. Most women play family politics and bias kids against their father

Probably popman was harsh to the children. Funke's marriage to that Muslim guy came to mind and I'm very sure he won't bless the union. The man look like a no nonsense man considering d fact that he was a Clergy.

That's the tradition and culture in yoruba land. If you live abroad and lost you dad or mum, there is no need to attend the funeral.

Even in igbo land its same thing. So nothing to gosh about here

please remain where you are. Don't mind nairaland boys, Chief hypocrites. Send some token as your contribution for his burial. Don't bother yourself with coming. Nobody will give you a dime when you become stranded. Be wise.

This is an interesting thread.

But then.....

If you have a crack or chip on your windshield and you happen to be reading this, do well to contact me on the numbers on my signature below. Cracks on windshield are very much repairable and the replacement cost saved with the help of a UV-aided modern technology. The earlier a crack or chip is repaired the better the result and the safer and healthier the windshield, as a professionally done glass repair ultimately ends any chance of a spread or further running of the crack in addition to restoring the windshield to a near perfect state without any sign of a damage.
Thank you.

I'm not saying that's what happened in funke's case , I'm just putting this out !

I had a course mate who his father divorced his mother when he was 2yrs old. The man ignored him and his mother, the mum was a nurse, she struggled to bring this smart dude up, guess what, he was the best graduating student of my set then. 4.88CGPA, chemical engineering.

The young man visited his father who now have 5 other kids with another woman, invited his father to his convocation, he said he want to show his father what he became without him.

On the convocation ground, when the boy was called up, two instant employment from two oil servicing company, the boy's father started crying he knelt down started begging the boy and his mother in the eyes of the public. The boy asked him to stand up hug his father and told him, ur REJECTION was my MOTIVATION.

The last story I heard about him, was that when his father was dying he willed all his properties to the young man, asking him to share it among his other siblings, because he is the only one he can trust, that he showed him what a failure of a father he is.

What am I trying to point out, we should learn to pay evil with kindness, it is the greatest joy anyone can get.

Ur parents are ur parents, come what may..... I will always treat them with kindness no matter what, because that is the kind of legacy I want to leave for my own kids

Ask their mother if she's available, if not, ask the ansentee 4 what she told them about their father. I heard of woman who turned all her 7 children against their father, by telling them he wanted to use them for money ritual but she refused and left him. The man reverted to bachelorhood and even in his old age the children, then grown ups, never saw reason to have anything to do with their dad. Sometimes it may not be the mother who's the culprit, but a babalawo or a useless "man of god".
After God, fear women. Very dangerous snake in the garden. One of my neighbors is suffering loneliness now because of his wicked and satanic wife who is even a "Chosen mopol" She practically biased her kids against their father to the extent the kids abuse, insult and call their father idi.ot openly. A very disciplined man who doesn't drink alcohol nor womanize, we all respect the man. But the churchous wife wants to kill that man

Probably they were not part of or in agreement with the preparations. All of them can’t be absent at same time. Smtn is definitely wrong smwhere.

All 4 of them? How busy can they claim to be? They don't seem to realize that they'll never get to see him EVER again. What a shame!

Surely there must be a very big quarrel in the family. Jealousy, envy, bitterness, greed and deep anger must be included. It is very unusual that children will relinquish their rights and responsibilities to their uncles and aunties.

Funke Akindele from what we see and hear could single handedly bury her father. What went wrong between them and the extended family?

Even if they abandoned their responsibilities to their father when he was alive, the extended family had no business burying the man without his children. That was a very foolish and evil move by their father's siblings. They say "do unto others as you wish them to do unto you". If the children abandoned their father when they started making it, their own children will do so to them. It is a simple natural law.

The priest took a wise decision when he found the children were not there. Let the wicked elders get lost and the children find time to do the rightful thing.

Too bad.
A man died few weeks ago The wife have separated him from his family for years. They are at Ilorin. The man was turned into a beggar, his three children are doctor, chartered accountant and a lawyer.
Don't know what went wrong with the family, or what the wife told the children.
Heard when they saw their father's corpse at the morgue, they were crying.

Too late for tears.

Couple should be careful not to set the kids against their partner. The end results are not palatable.

You need not come for his burial. But make sure you contribute your quota to his burial. Pay for something that is needed for the burial. You may also et your dad's relations know that your absence is not as a result of what he did to you but due to some issues relating to travelling.

Late Mr Akindele was a very good man though very strict. He was a disciplinarian who took no nonsense. You know disciplines in those days are seen as wickedness today. As a pastor and principal, he was a role model to so many people most especially to the students under his care.
He wanted his kids to be like him and to be an example to what he teaches or rather preaches.
Trouble started when his daughter...

Re: Godwin Olusoji Akindele's Burial: Funke Akindele Absent At Father's Funeral by dominique(f): 3:13pm On Jan 19
Sadly a lot of Nigerian men believe fatherhood begins and ends with money. They hardly bond with their kids and are so strict on the kids that they successfully push them away. Some would rather spend on mistresses than on their families. These kids are not stupid, they're not blind. They're seeing everything. There's a limit to how much you can turn a child against his/her parent. They act/react based on what they've experienced

That said, it's absolutely wrong of Funke and siblings not to show up at their dad's funeral. He was their father, he deserved that last respect. I know of a man that abandoned his 8 kids for his wife to singlehandedly raise. All kids, now graduates and all doing very well turned up when he died and gave him a befitting funeral.
