For about the whole day, most data users on MTN experienced very slow upload and download speed on Friday 17th January, 2020.

By 1:18am, MTN sent a message:
Y'ello. We apologize for slow data speeds and difficulty with accessing the internet. Please bear with us as we work to resolve the issue. Thank you.

Later today by 8:06am MTN sent another message:
Dear Customer, Thank you for your patience. We're glad to report that we have resolved all issues with our internet service. We apologize for the inconvenience
.

Some customers claimed to have received 100MB FREE Data as compensation.

Were you also compensated for the loses you had?

The National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers (NATCOMS) said the N1.17 billion fine slammed on the four biggest telecoms operators in the country should be paid as compensation to the over 100 million subscribers in the country.


The telecoms sector regulator, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), had on May 11 ordered MTN Nigeria and Etisalat Nigeria to pay N360 million fines each.

It said Airtel Nigeria would pay N270 million while Globacom, Nigeria's second national operator (SNO), would pay N180 million.

The mobile phone companies were also ordered to pay their respective fines not later than May 25 or risk a fresh round of punitive fines pegged at N2.5million per day if they default in meeting Friday's payment deadline.

But NATCOMS in a statement at the weekend said the N1.17billion fine should not be paid to the Federal Government, but to subscribers as the FG is not the direct sufferer of the poor quality service.

I got 500mb compensation from MTN but I can't use it. All my data usage has been from my normal data subscription balance. Anyone know how to switch to the bonus data

Good to hear they are resolving the issue. What is the essence of a bonus that you won't be to able use?... MTN keeps taking their customers for a ride.

Mtn fumbled and I switched to Glo immediately and the funniest thing was that Glo network became extraordinarily fast.
