einsteine:AkwaIbom people fought on the side of Biafra. Go and read history young man. Vice President of Biafra then was a man from AkwaIbom state; Colonel Philip Effiong. The second in command to my father who was a commander of one Biafra military battalion that defended Portharcourt before it fell to Federal Troops was an AkwaIbom man, they also had lots of soldiers from today Rivers state and Bayelsa States. Stop twisting history for fun young man. Many communities from Niger Delta fought on the side of Biafra. It was mostly Ijaws and some other tribes in Niger Delta that joined Nigerian side and mostly because they were angry that after Ojukwu and Aguiyi Ironsi stopped Major Jasper Adaka Boro from leading Ijaw Nation he codenamed Niger Delta to secede from Nigeria, that why do they now want to secede, which to me, they were right. 2 Likes |

franchasng: Asaba people have never denied being Igbo, not even for one day. Asaba people know their history. They remember that their real name is 'Ahaba' and how the British turned it to 'Asaba'. Enuani people(Asaba, Okpanan, Ibusa etc) dont deny being Igbo. The problem are those closer to Edo state such as Agbor and Kwale who have had some Bini influence. Some no longer know who they are. The king of Agbor is Ikechukwu yet some people said he is Bini 5 Likes 1 Share |

franchasng: Colonel E.A Etuk (one of Nigeria's finest soldiers) was from Calabar, he held Owerri for 8 months. Colonel Victor Banjo was a Yoruba man, he led the capture of the mid west and the invasion of Ore. There were many easterners that fought on the side of Nigeria and vice versa. That's the nature of war. People take sides for different reasons. 1 Like |

It is this sort of ignorance and dumbness that is keeping Nigeria backwards. No established logic or critical thinking. What is the relationship between Midwest and Igbo? One is a tribe and the other a geopolitical region. And who said Asaba is not Igbo? Who said Igbos are not in Midwest? That's how someone said the other day that Mr. A is Igbo but Mr. B is Rivers. franchasng: It was never an igbo coup. I don't know why u guys called it an igbo coup. It had a yoruba officer amongst the plotters (Ademoyega). and because the officer charged with the assassination of Nnamdi Azikiwe failed at his task during the coup because he was Igbo and sympathetic to his fellow tribesman. Kaduna Nzeogwu never had any idea of ethnic coloration to this coup. It was the northerners who felt on the disadvantaged side of it who made it so and mostly because of the way the "Igbo" people residing in the north mocked and made scornful remarks at the hausa-fulani at the deaths of their leaders. You need to read history and see that the igbos in the north threw caution to the wind by telling stories of how the sardauna died and even went as far as singing songs of ridicule at their northern landlords. This made the hausa-fulanis term this coup ad igbo orchestrated. By the way, In a 1992 interview, Ojukwu dismissed claims that Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu was the leader of the plot, as was widely believed. A Nigerian Police Special Branch report, its first part partially redacted and the second part missing, stated that Ifeajuna (from onitsha), Don Okafor and Captain Ogbu Oji were the creators and protagonists of the coup plot in 1965, with Ojukwu only becoming involved at a late stage. Ifeajuna is seen by some as the assassin of Prime Minister Balewa, which brought down the First Republic and caused civil war. 1 Like 1 Share |

Techdra: You are right. The war was simply fought on the basis of greed and who to own the oil in the Delta region. The timing of the secession occured just during the time of the first significant oil boom in Nigeria's recorded history. Nigerians are a greedy set of people I have never seen before. No one, I repeat, no one had anyone's interest at heart. The useless hegemony is still exhibited by Nigeria's leaders today to keep Nigeria one because of the proceeds they easily make from the major exports. It's also important to note that external forces like the UK were tacitly in favour of Nigeria remaining as one entity because of the major export relationships that had been forged between these countries, esp. in the early 60's. As for the Biafrans on the other end and what people dont get to talk about is that, before the agitation of cessation, they launched a coup shortly before the war, in 1966 to be precise, on the pretext that the Nigerians in power at that time were corrupt. But when in power, these people were guilty of the same thing. Just the same way we have the fulanis trying to wax strong because they have their person Buhari as president, the same tribalistic sense of entitlement was exhibited far and wide by Ibo merchants and civil servants, displaying newfound arrogance and sense of superiority which all culminated into the ugly scenes of the civil war. The hausas / fulanis, usually animalistic in nature and seriously stone-aged, couldnt tolerate this chest-beating and sense of entitlement properly and began a massacre spree on ibos in certain parts of the north, particularly Kano and Kaduna. Many biafrans returned home: this is where under the leadership of Ojukwu, they declared cessation. The ibos had a serious eye on the city of Port-Harcourt, a major seaport and oil refinery hub. And that was one asset to the nation that Nigerian leaders wouldnt take lightly. My own judgment is, the Biafran leadership was equally as corrupt as the government of that day. Soldiers have a sworn duty to obey orders from the Commander-in-Chief, so I wont touch on their docility. The biafran soldiers (not really soldiers though), were another case. What did they really think they were fighting for? Many of them had good intentions, but they were manipulated from the top. The selfish agenda of the top Ibo generals was so patently clear right from the onset but then they capitalised on the misfortune that happened to their kinsmen up north to actualise their greedy motives. The current state of the East at this moment, half a century on, is already an indicator of what might have been had they been successful with their secession. See what their leaders still use them to do. The other day it was Ikpeazu sharing kerosene, and at one time it was Orji Kalu being thrown to jail for money laundering. That is just the painful realilty of things today. The leaders, both past and present, are simply devils in disguise and how whole millions would have been brainwashed to such extent not knowing whether their interests truly aligned was nothing short of a disaster. 1 Like |

1. Nzeogwu masterminded a coup that eliminated mostly northern leaders. 2. War broke out and Achuzie and some other soldiers from the same region with Nzeogwu fought for the Biafran side. We can as well call them Igbos. 3. Asaba people though not denying being Igbo, denied being part of Biafra. (How foolish of them). 4. When the Nigerian troops entered Asaba, they still foolishly went to welcome them. How they were still able to convince themselves that they were safe still baffles me (That act actually brings their Igboness to question). 5. While the people of Asaba were thinking that denying Biafra would save them, The Federal troops were seeing them as the Igbos who Killed their leaders and were still fighting them at that moment; which is the logical thing to think because Achuzie and co cannot be fighting Nigeria and his people will be shouting one Nigeria. 6. Lastly it was their naiveness that killed them because if they had enrolled in the Biafran army, They would have at least gone down with a fight. The genocide was very bad of the federal troops and I believe that no sin would go unpunished. Na summary I dey do. 1 Like |
