I'm confuse right now cos to me I feel the Sienna will be more homely for my children but he said Highlander is more stronger than Sienna which I'm doubted though. Pls help to enlighten me where I may be lagging behind.

Rugged area.... not pretty much flat.... bad road network.... prone to floods.... if you and members of your household are ehmmm...... fat...beefy.... then go for the higher clearance Highlander.... high clearance four wheel drive would be needed to haul you guys. If not...go for the Sienna.

I drive my 1st generation sienna like an Hilux, there is no where road dey wey I no dey go be it flooded, gully, zig-zag, yes it may not navigate faster but it would push through.

I don't see much ground clearance between the sienna 1st generation and a Highlander 1st generation I view it everyday cause my neighbor parks by my side.

Anyway both are identical to a degree in Engine and some suspension component. Sienna is also cheaper to acquire.

At full load, the Highlander is better in ground clearance, but for seating the sienna trumps as I can fit 10 people including driver in it

Thanks for this update. I av the Sienna 2003 model in mind cos I guess this kinda stronger than the new generational ones bt my mechanic kept insisting that Highlander is better, but I can't have gurus here and admit to only his own suggestion.

If you don't mind the price difference buy the 3 row seat Highlander. Anyone you buy out of the 2 is ok, it's a matter of preference whether you like a bus or prefer what we call "jeep" in Nigeria

I am considering getting a family 7-seater car.

Sienna is good with affordable maintenance cost, but the low ground clearance does not help matters given our bad roads.
That leaves a choice between Highlander and Honda Pilot.

I have read several reviews and comparisons between Highlander and Pilot and there is no significant difference in terms of handling and fuel economy.

Pilot has more cargo space and the rear seats are said to be more comfortable than the Highlander.
Well, since Highlander appears to be more popular, it may be your best choice.

Readers, please shed more light on Honda Pilot versus Toyota Highlander.

Highlander and sienna use same engine and gear infact same Engine and some suspension component year for year. so maintenance is going to be identical except that 1st generation sienna doesn't have a 4WD variant and shares more part with Camry pencil light so parts are cheaper than highlander




Interms of price, No, sienna 2nd gen 04 to 07 (b4 the facelift to 3.5L Engine) is between 1.8m to 2.2m for the highest trim

Highlander is between 2.5m to 3.2m or so when you look at naija used value of sienna 1.2/1.5m against Highlander not more than 1.8m you see that Highlander doesn't have a higher resale price. But I believe the 4cylinder Highlander sell more than sienna.



No justification for these because year for year both vehicles don't cost same price even from factory

You have really broken it down to a very clear level for me and to those in doubts like me. I'll likely go for the Sienna with full option like DVD player and more spacious rooms cos of my children.

The advantage Sienna has over all others is that it is roomy. The Sienna is a family vehicle which has space for children and cargo. Other than that the Highlander is compact and would be more expensive to maintain as highlighted above. If you are willing to spend more and you are comfortable with the space within the Highlander then you can go for it.
