Chairman, the north didn't start ruling from 2015.
Thanks!

Hahaha, so when did the north started voting for a northerner??
If you put the blame on the north voting northerner, then when did that start?
I can remember vividly;
-The north voted Abiola instead of Tofa,
-The North voted OBJ 1999
-The North voted who OBJ choosed ahead of Atiku & Buhari. 2007
-The north Voted for Jonathan 2011.
The same north then voted for Buhari 2015.
So if they made one mistake out of 5, is it then the reason for their backwardness and poverty? The answer is No! I still maintain that it's religion not politics that is the root cause of poverty and backwardness up north.
You can use that ethnic sentiments on some folks but there are those of us who still think with our heads.

The report states that 87% of the poverty resides in the north. In other words, 13% of those not poor in the north are the southerners that reside over there. And what a burden.

In addition,do you know that only in the South East do we have a state in the South (ebonyi state) that has as much poverty rate as Northern states. Now you know.
I still have a feeling that the North inflates it's poverty statistics.

You must be thinking with the brain of a cow to think is Ebonyi state is poor. Go deal with the poverty down north, stop trying to yoke it with any southern state.

But the most developed region with good roads, light, best schooling infrastructures and lowest cost of living in Nigeria is still the north.
.
Please, stop these useless statistics that is making the government give preferential treatment to the north and leaving the south to suffer all because "the south get money.."

.
In the next 100years if Nigeria is still together, I wonder what will become of the south
.

Take away the north and Nigeria is a middle income country.

Someone said something intelligent. Only the south can help.
The blind cannot lead the blind.

They need to keep electing southern presidents that would force progressiveness on them.

Buhari will not do that for them. He is an average northerner that knows nothing about the right of every citizen to have proper education.

Jonathan built their almajiri schools. Those schools no longer exists.
And that is what they need more than roads and bridges.

The North is irredeemable, the best solution is for each of the constituting units to go their separate ways and leave the north to find solution to her problem.

A key factor that keeps poverty high in Nigeria is lack of access to finance. I strongly believe poverty in the south would have diminished so much should the youths and young adults have access to finance that could help their various initiatives in business and entrepreneurship.

One key point however that we easily overlook in Nigeria is the fact that states and local governments are not doing anything to empower the people but just incentivize them for electioneering purposes. Most financial commitments to poverty alleviation is cash based and what do a poor man do with money more than to eat!

Many youths and young adults in the northern states can still work on the farm if government focus on farming. Uneducated people can still learn to drive tractors or harvesters, can work in food factories etc but government is rather waiting for allocation from the federal and so 37(FCT Inclusive) states are waiting for their monthly handouts draining their creativity on how to confront their problems

The people with the lowest poverty are most probably the Igbo because majority are into buying and selling and that also has had negative impact on productivity of the country. For Nigeria to stamp out poverty people must engage in value creating activities including small scale manufacturing like we have in Nnewi, Aba, Ibadan and around Lagos and Kano. Youths must be able to access capital to drive their initiatives to generate value. I often frank at how cabals in the banking sector have cornered opportunities to themselves because whether we accept it or not, you may praise Sanusi Lamido as good CBN Governor, we are still reeling from the poverty that resulted from mass purge in the banking industry during his tenure. The spiral effects still plague the southern part of the country till today coupled with inimical policies that is yet to liberate micro financing after removal of community banks. We should reduce entry barrier to those who may be interested in financing youths initiatives, why must I have 100million to start a microfinance bank? what is micro about 100million? why can't we have Assets Financing Companies and real micro lenders with just a million naira even half a million. If for instance, i intend to fund market women selling vegetables, lending them 50,000 naira can change their lives. Why must our policies in the areas of finance be like Europe or China? Until we realize that strong commitment to taking people out of poverty is in our hands we should prepare for an explosive situation that will consume even the perceived secured rich people.

We can tackle poverty by also de-emphasizing inimical cultural norms like marrying four wives, women not working etc and focus on what we have that we can use to move forward, the first I will say is land, even the oil we emphasize so much we don't own the technology but we can start from where our strengths lie which is the land is ours, we have population that can farm, then the question is, how do we get them to work on the farm. From the farm we can look at storage, transports, transformation, selling, exports etc.

Your write up is so on point about what can be done to reduce the poverty rate in the country.
I remember a Professor, in my undergraduate days, who lamented that Nigeria's economy is so much service sector oriented (buying and selling etc), to the detriment of the productive sector such as large scale agricultural production, manufacturing and other things that will create value and wealth for the society.
The above scenerio holds true for today and is further compounded by the lack of access to capital, whether micro- finance or large scale loans which would have served as lifeline to so many small and medium scale entrepreneurs.

Must we accept western funding

Nigeria isnt dependant on foreign aid.

You can't/ or shouldn't stop NGOs. They can provide a valuable service when they are not engaging in poverty porn/ exploitation.

We do not have enough money to shun aid. The north needs it. Those almajiris need it. They do not care where the money is coming from they want to eat and have shelter. We need vaccinations.

Isreal accepts foreign aid. Ukraine accepts. It is usually a part of trade.
I honestly can't answer your question as your question pass my pay grade. Maybe someone smarter can answer.

Nigeria doesn't accept a lot of things other countries do. Like we do not allow foreign adoptions. In fact if a nigerian is married to a foreigner they can not adopt from nigeria legally.

I was happy when I woke up these morning to see the phone I charged last night that was 89% come to 87%. Am happy because the battery didn't derail much. But what saddened me was when I woke up these morning to behold front page of Punch newspaper written bold that 87% poverty rate in North- world bank. That's when I became worried. Someone we sent to go and represent us came in the house the other time and told us how he has 4 wives and 27 children, he even said yesterday in one of the dailies that his father of 87 years also had 40 children. Now tell me, how won't our poverty rate go up to 1000% in 10 years time. I Jaco have also say it that until we restructure these country, believe you me, nothing will ever move in these nation. I rest my case but you can attack me for all I care

Bro the statistic is spot on, people don't know how poor the north is. When you go to the north you will believe this statistic totally.

Forget about those that come here to share pictures of flyovers and roads in Kano or Kaduna government reserved areas, majority of northerners live in the rural areas. Do you know that Kano municipal is only about 499 square kilometers with a lower population than Ibadan municipal that is over 3080 square kilometers? Most people in Kano lives in their rural areas where poverty is very high.

On average, most northern states get more in allocation than southwestern States but yet states like Osun that gets half of what Sokoto gets in a month is much better both in infrastructure and human development index. Last five years we perform a social experiment where I and three of my friend's tour 4 southwestern States, 3 north-central states, 3 northwestern states, 3 south southern states and 3 southeastern states.

All the southern states and 2 north central states such as a Kwara and Kogi have a high concentration of educated individual and wealth in their rural areas but from Niger state up the story becomes very bleak.
you and your crew did well bro but please stop touring please because if northern almajiries catch you, guy you will be a dead man oooo. I remember what happened to me in 2016 at sabon garri Kano where I went to eat food in the luxury bus park. After I finished my food and dropped the plate, about 15 small small boys rush to eat the remaining of the food I left, omo na so goose pimple full my body and as I brought out my phone to snap na so my friend warn me that if they people catch me then I will be burnt alive. Na so I open my mouth like a person wey don lost for jungle
