I don't know what you guys may think of this, but I really am starting to have great admiration for this woman at a rather exponential rate Sharp hustler, that's what she is! Remember how vehemently she supported the idea of Yar'Adua's impeachment? She thoroughly studied the arena and realized he didn't have a fighting chance with the heaping pressure, so she supported his impeachment, because she knew she'd still retain her job if Jonathan decided to refresh his cabinet (onto igbo-to-igbo levels). And now, we're faced with the upcoming political race in 2011. Ever asked yourself why she didn't choose to contest under the PDP platform? With their heaping defeats at the appeal courts, this woman knew that party was coming to an end, and she, being the sharp woman she is, has decided to jump ship to still keep her dreams alive and kicking! Give it to the lady - she may not be the most politically experienced player, but she sure is one helluva fast-rising juggernaut. Abeg, make una stop hating. It's survival of the fittest, baby! |
Re: Saharareporters: Dora Akunyili's Resignation Letter by sochan: 7:09pm On Dec 15, 2010 |
seriously people, I am not quite sure what all the personal attacks are about. is it that she is not entitiled like you and I to quit and contest? I dont get it. What is so wrong with what she has done? this woman has my full support, and I tell you why. It is easy for all of us to sit behind out computers and critisize, but how many are prepared to step up to the plate and fight the good fight, and I am sure the answer is none. Whilst she might have made some misakes in the past (I accept that), she has also stuck her neck out when it mattered, and if the truth be told, probably you and i wont do it. So what I am saying is stop complaining and get involved |

People would just castigate without putting down facts, first was Dora nominated to that position because she was a member of PDP, Nope, she wasn't.she must have lobbied for that office or any ministerial position but she didn't get it cus she was a member of PDP, so she has every right to go join any party and contest for any position she deems fit, and coming to that letter I still insist it looks fake, |

Boboribo: Stop trying to read MY MIND cause you do not know how to, from your repost above, and focus on the topic. So, please stick to making your points and basing them on facts, not crap arguments. The above has NOTHING TO DO WITH MY EMOTIONS but simply my person telling you I have NO TIME for any of the same old crap arguments which my eyes can no longer stand considering they mostly come from people who should have learned how to use their heads better by now, but would rather engage you in this if you have FACTS to offer to counter anything I have said so far on this issue. If you do not have anything substantial to say or offer next, it's OK. |

@ marvix, We don't need smart senators without character, we need people of honour and intelligence. Today she abandoned a party dt made her just as she snitched at d FEC. How long shall it take u and me to realize dt if her interest isn't same wt her future constituency dt she won't sell out? Do u know what I c in her? A perfect impression of traitor. Such person should never watch my back. Not even having her represent my community interest. Yea, she did good job in NAFDAC. Didn't she say she ws driven by d death of a relative from counterfeit drug to perform? Isn't dt supposed to mean dt it ws a personal vengeance mission for her? When d accolades started to come in she pressed on because or ws just about HERSELF. My friend, I feel sorry already for d constituency she plans to represent because she really means to represent HERSELF. It's all there before us, let's use our mind and string it together to c d true picture of tomorrow wt her in d senate. |

Agreed the resignation letter was patronising, but that still does not make her any less a good person. The problem I ve with a lot of whiners is the way you lots stay outside and criticize people that are actually making geniune attempts. This is politics for God sake not some hollywood movie about some American idealistic politics where everything portrays an average American politician as perfect and what have you, if you all know so much, go and pick Ur own tickets and compete abeg! Politicians will always be politicians when the time for playing politics comes, irrespective of the country. Politicians will always play according to the prevailing politics in their country. There is nothing wrong with quitting her appointment and joining another party that she is convinced will help her realize her aim. It is up to the people of Anambra Central senatorial zone to reject her or give her their mandate, not some hating junkie some place spewing hokum and complaining all the time. I was in Anambra 3wks back and contrary to haters' wish and hating opinions, the woman is very porpular and has grassroot support. As for complainers and whiners, keep complaining but the woman is going to the senate even if it is going to give you all stomach Ulcer, you can be sure y'all will get it. |
Re: Saharareporters: Dora Akunyili's Resignation Letter by Faun(m): 7:29pm On Dec 15, 2010 |
It's funny the amount of anger, rage and mental retardation this simple news has triggered. Wetin you dey drag? Fact is, she has left the crumbling PDP; another fact is that she's moved over to the winning team in her home state; another bitter truth is the fact that she's been more politically relevant and prominent than her direct opponent at APGA, meaning she does have an excellent chance of winning; the most bitter of facts is, during her days of prominence at PDP, she served as an Information Minister, meaning you can't even accuse her of looting a freaking dime; so basically, your rants are meaningless and inconsequential to her! Sad but true. Hahahaha! |
Re: Saharareporters: Dora Akunyili's Resignation Letter by marvix(m): 7:36pm On Dec 15, 2010 |
Quote from Donmeca, Wait oo. . .she didn't just quit d cabinet but also the party! I was thinking she believed in fighting and getting results, she shud av gone home to rally support for PDP and Jonathan. Chei! Obi must have promised her the ticket on a platter. PDP has lost another member. . .the subject of this thread shud av read "Dora Dumps PDP for APGA" That is why she is a smart politician, the best Jonathan hopes for in Anambra is to have a large share of the votes, Jonathan knows that APGA would not have a presidential candidate that can even win Anambra state ahead of him even if the APGA candidate is from Anambra. If Dora is projected as a PDP candidate in Anambra an APGA candidate can beat her having the support of Obi and Ojukwu, but if Dora is running under APGA, Anambra can comfortably become a full APGA state with all members from APGA while they will cast their presidential vote for Jonathan. The woman is indeed wise, let Utomi take his party to his senatorial district, let falana represent his district, let Ribadu represent his district, let Duke go to the senate let us have credible stubborn people in the senate then it would not be a lone voice against the thieving majority, it would be a pricipled set vs unprincipled set, national cleansing should start from the national assembly then and only then would we be prepared to move into the next phase of our democratic experience. Some govs in the PDP who think that the 2007 transition would play out in the future where govs naturally are the strong contenders to the presidency would only suddenly realise that a coalition in the National assembly will only make them more like regional lords with no influence at Abuja. |

Dora has turned patronising into an art, she needs a patent abi na NAFDAC number ASAP! As I take this step, I solicit for your prayers and other forms of support. I am making this request because you are my people and my immediate constituency. Your immediate constituency? Government ministers? Really?!! Yes, my colleagues in the pharmaceutical industry are still my people but I have virtually exhausted my goodwill with them in the service of our dear Country, especially in support of the Re-branding Nigeria project. Many drug manufacturing companies spent over N10 million for the Re-branding Nigeria materials because they desperately wanted me to succeed. WTH!! Private Pharmaceutical companies spending millions on the public project of a former regulator? Therefore, it is you and only you that I can now run to for support. Please, I plead with each and everyone of you to sow a seed to my political career, you will never regret it I would've been surprised if that patronising church language did not feature somewhere. SMH In the words of President Jonathan, I will never let you down. Yes, I will be in the senate by the grace of God for my constituency and for the nation but you can be sure that I will also be there for you. For Who? council members? is this woman using expired NAFDAC drugs?!! Mr. President, I will never forget the encouragement you gave me through phone calls, text messages, e.t.c. when I was in NAFDAC during that fight for life. Mr. Vice President, you always call me your sister, please continue to call me your sister. Oh boy! she can't help herself can she? my stomach o! I pray that this Council succeeds to the end and that many of you continue as Council members after May 2011. Damn! I need original Pepcid or Tums, my Stomach is churning. |

Faun:. . I bet if these perpetual whiners have any concrete evidence of her financial impropriety they would ve been posting very long epistles here. . Lol Some people just hate the woman's guts, there is nothing this woman will do that the likes of Kobo nini wu aha ya sef will not find faults and whine. I ve never seen a bad-belle like her. Dora is a very savvy politician, it is a fact, she has managed to wheather through times that ordinarily would ve seen the end of her career. Recently, one of my Uncles that has lived for over 30yrs in the states came back and wanted to run to represent Ngor-opkala /Abombaise Federal constituency at the house of rep but got the shocker of his life, the whole thing was so dirty that even before attending one of those meetings to declare his intention to the PdP elders in the constituency, his life history had been published in one of those local newspaper, steeped with spurious claims to damage his person. It came to point, he started geting threat calls, he just had to back out. Some people think it is as easy as writing their political fantasies, abi na to dey write big grammer na im dem dey take do am. . .scheew! |
Re: Saharareporters: Dora Akunyili's Resignation Letter by marvix(m): 8:37pm On Dec 15, 2010 |
@homerac, we need smart politicians and credible people. Is Doras credibility in doubt, she is human so her interests must also be catered for. It is just a Nigerian mentality to think that out of principle you would deny your interests. Dont forget she tried to mend fences within the PDP in Anambra after they lost the governorship elections but the warring sides looked down on her and snobbed all her entreaties. She has made a smart move instead of staying on in PDP to supervise the rigging of elections for herself in the central senatorial district where it would have been unnecessary and by effect support the rigging in the other zones and other PDP idiots with nothing to offer will ride on her popularity and get various seats like the state house or maybe allow a free contest where even within the PDP in her state members would betray her by then she would have joined the list of failed politicians. Homerac Nigeria needs people like Dora in a place in govt, see what Sanusi is doing, see what Ribadu did in the EFCC, do you think Dora will make a statement like Nuhu Aliyu that his colleagues were criminals and back down because of pressure instead of substantiating it, do you think Ribadu will back down if he ever accuses a member of corruption that he has evidence for. It is time to have titans in the National assembly, People like Ayogu Eze and the current breed of senators should give space, we dont need their experience anymore. Setting the records straight Dora never denied Yaradua, she only said what had been on her mind for a long time, she did not call for the impeachment she only asked that Jonathan be given the full powers of an Acting president so that the buisness of govt can continue, it was more out of frustration that a simple thing as that was being made complex by we spoke with the president he said bla bla bla, what she was saying was let Jonathan act as president whenever Yaradua gets well he should comeback if he can. She only stood for the truth and stood for doing things right. I supported her and also in my submission in those heady days, I said we donot need any resolution from the senate or letter from the president for a VP to act on his behalf, the president can remain president for 6months on a hospital bed as long as there is a vice that is acting on his behalf and a cabinet that believes that the president will make it back. Dora stood for the nation in her days at NAFDAC even if she was driven by personal vendetta, she stood for Nigerians as Minister of Info nd Communications by insisting that communication coys should reduce their tarriffs even when the EVC of the NCC said it was not feasible. Dora has proven beyond reasonable doubt to my humble self that if given an opprtunity at the senate while representing her constituency she would always have the interest of the nation at heart. |

I don't get the need for all these attack on the former minister. As far as 'am concerned, she's been one of the few people who had inspired any confidence in government. Her decision to run for the senate will definitely not go down well with some people but I strongly believe that if she wins, Anambra would be better for it. |
