In 1999, a young immigrant from Guinea just got back from work and decided to chill on the staircase of his apartment in NY, maybe to “collect breeze”. This was in broad daylight.
A an unmarked police vehicle with 4 plain-cloth officers slowly turns the corner past his house, on patrol. The young man sees them, being black, decides “I no want police wahala”. So he withdraws into his hallway.
The police wonder why he saw them and found his square root. So they stop and 2 of them follow him into the building. He sees them coming after him and they order him to stop. In fear he takes off on the staircase towards his apartment.
Police is after him shouting at him to stop, guns drawn - he reached for his pocket (to get his door key)
That was his fatal error. The police officer closest to him starts firing. The shock of how abruptly the shooting started threw the 2nd police officer down the stairs. But he is also firing as he is falling down.
His fall made the 3rd and 4th officers think he was hit. So they start shooting too. The young immigrant collapsed in front of his door and they ceased fire. By the time the count was done - Amadou Diallo from Guinea was hit 19 times from 41 shots fired.
They said they thought he was reaching for a gun. All they found was his wallet. They followed him into the house because they said he looked like a rape suspect from the year before.
The officers were tried for murder and found not guilty.
Diallo’s family got a settlement of $3m.

Why him sef run..police get capped by criminals too so atimes they are jumpy. A calm and polite yet confident approach is the best way to deal with police..when they are in their bullying mode accusing you wrongly dont get riled up claiming rights just defuse so as to be left alone..and move on

What are you saying bro, then racism was at its peak na, see the last sentence of the story, they were found not guilty and made to walk free. Those times were hard for a black man because you’re always a suspect and one has to always avoid the police troubles.

Educative...but if there's one thing I have learnt...it is 'never argue or disobey someone that is carrying a gun'.

You're right because if you watched the movie THUG.....when the heroine asked her uncle if he a cop would act the same way in a white neighborhood as he would in a black ...the uncle said no...
It's all about racism

The police are guilty of racial profiling but honestly I’d do the same if I’m in the same situation. And it happened around 12:40am

Naija police too dey do wrong profiling based on looks...

God help you, you dress expensively or you lock you hair or you use an iPhone and also carry laptop... You'll be profiled as a yahoo boy and fleeced dry, that's if you cooperate though. If you try to resist them, they'll pull out their guns and end you

No questions ask...

Are you aware if you are a black, and you reach out for anything at all, you will be shot?
And are you aware, if you are a white, and you reach out for anything, they can't shoot at you?
Do the maths, and you may want to modify what you wrote up there

You are Confused,
Na so ona dey take fail exam woefully.
OP gave the Original event that gave birth to the idea that gave birth to the Song and you're here giving us the lyrics to the soundtrack of the Song.
U well at all?!
You know What Plagiarism Means?!
Wyclef Jean was only been Creative as an artist when he made His own scenario.
That's Originality not that what OP said was totally Wrong.
