Imagine Buhari and his uselessness?

So they want to hand over the money to Abacha's partner in crime so they could reloot it and share among themselves

Money that belongs to all Nigerians .

Buhari is the most corrupt President in Nigerian history.

You and the guy you replied to make sense. The rest are just bunch of lazy asses, yelling on top of their lungs. Anything that goes wrong in the country is Buhari's fault. Yet they themselves are out there cheating their fellow NIGERIANs.
Yankee101:

You need to understand the origin of the agreement, remember he sent Mohd Abacha to prison.

An irrevocable trust is usually secret and only known to the owner and deed holders/offshore bankers. It's very hard to access the money without the owner's cooperation. For example Jeffrey Epstein moved his money to a trust in his brother's name before he died so it can be difficult for the people suing him to get much

So in order not to lose everything they had to go into that agreement so the money can come out. That act alone released hundreds of millions to the FG and led to Mohd's release and Bagudu signing off the monies. The usual thing to do now is charge him with new corruption charges and seize the money

It's tricky to be honest.

While I don't support handing over the funds to Bagudu, you can't totally fault the FG not involving itself in going after Bagudu.

1) He has immunity for now as Governor
2) There's been an agreement from as far abck as 2003 by the then Government. Things like this aren't just straightforward.

1999 constitution had destroy Nigeria democracy and is still destroying it

there won't be any development not even a prayer will work if this satanic constitution is not ignored and abandoned for a sane constitution

Tbf, Sen. Bagudu got his amnesty under OBJ. It was agreed to in a UK court. Seems FG is bound to the agreement whether they like it or not.
What is disturbing is the fact that the "Distinguished Excellency" will be allowed to keep close to €100M (~N40B)! For doing what exactly ?
If you want to know the source of our modern democratic crises across board, look no further than OBJ's administration. All kinds of egregious precedents were set during that time, the negative effects of which continue to haunt us.

Despite the forfeiture action being initiated following a Nigerian state request in 2012, Buhari’s government now says it can’t assist the U.S. because it’s bound by a settlement Bagudu reached with the administration of then-President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003, according to the court filings.

Buhari’s administration reached a new agreement with him in October 2018, according to the court filings. That would result in the transfer of ownership of the investment portfolios, worth 141 million euros ($155 million) to the Nigerian state, which would then pay 98.5 million euros to Bagudu and his affiliates, according to Bates’ Dec. 23 opinion.

Hope you understand better now.

BTW, it was not an amnesty, it was more or less a plea bargain. What the Buhari govt should have done was to hold that since he had sued the Nigerian govt, the plea bargain was now useless, make efforts to impeach him like OBJ did for Alams and get him arrested. But of course we know he's a sacred cow.

They missed the part where their PDP uncles shielded Bagudu with the settlement and OBJ AMNESTY, tied our hands and set the trap against Nigeria.
.
With that settlement engineered by OBJ, Bagudu is free and can walk into any court and continuously win against Nigeria.

This is one of the sad many legacies of the PDP and institutionalized corruption.

And you missed the part where Goodluck's govt instituted actions of forfeiture against him in 2012 only for Buhari's govt to claim they can't follow up because of a 2003 agreement he had reneged against by taking the Nigerian govt to court??

Stop thinking in a binary manner of PDP vs APC. It belittles your education. This dude is about to be 98m richer than the state he governs and you're here fighting PDPvsAPC. What a pity!!

Nigerian govt contracting agreement with a looter over looted funds not in their possession bt with America and Europe without consultations with them.

I ask why is the looter being compensated Cos he returned 2% of the loot bt has no control over the rest of the 98%

At least we can monitor it from that source as it will be announced what our foreign reserves is by growth of adding Abacha's loot. It will also affect the economy positively and before foreign reserve can deplete so fast there must be an explanation for public debate.

A government worth its salt would challenge that agreement rather than attempt to hand over that humongous sum, obviously proceed of crime, to Bagudu. The argument would be simple - the money belongs to Nigerian people and the government should not be seen to be rewarding criminals. Ask the court to nullify the agreement. At least attempt it and let's see what the courts would rule. Obj may have entered the agreement but he's no longer the president. The current government should not hide under that excuse to reloot the funds.

And you forgot to show us how your post altered or changed the fact that the PDP and OBJ created the problem to start with by granting him AMNESTY, the same AMNESTY he's using against Nigeria till today to win court judgements, the same AMNESTY that any government or the current government can not change so of what relevance was the 2012 GEJ rubbish you are talking about?

How do you grant the looter eternal AMNESTY and then try to go against your own AMNESTY?

Talk about medicine after death.

So the dude is about to be richer, who's a fault is that? Do you want me to remind you or give you the answer?, yes I will, OBJ and the PDP clan or corruption.
Re: US Opposes Nigeria's Plan To Hand Abacha Looted Funds To Governor Bagudu by googi: 3:11pm On Feb 21, 2020
United States has better memory than Nigeria.

Nigerians never see faults with their base. Now they are blaming Obama, former British PM and Obasanjo for forcing a bad deal that got looters off.

Those of us that still have some memories left remember how the Northern oligarchy almost crucified OBJ for "persecuting" Abacha children. OBJ had to go and explain that Abacha children are his children too but the money belongs to Nigeria.

He cut a deal, some of us thought was not good enough, than risk long court battle overseas and waste money on foreign lawyers. Abacha family did not care how much of the loot is lost fighting to keep their loot.

That some people are using this to justify the outrageous looting of Jonathan that failed to build another country for the People of Niger Delta abroad is bafflingly.

Jonathan, their son and a bona fide Biafran single handedly pave the way for Buhari. Now some are denying him as a Biafran when it is convenient so that they can get Presidency again. Surprise, surprise, surprised!

No, this is not Nigerian money. The money belongs to Niger Delta and should be used to restore the environmental disaster there back to farming and fishing for the poor that have lost their livelihood.

Not, not to bribe the militants that are no better than their fellow Nigerian looters.
