This is an article first published by Time Magazine – Monday, Nov. 10, 1958. It detailed the intrigues and power play between the three main power brokers in Nigeria, all jostling for political power.
I believe the mistake of 1959 is more consequential than 1914. In the 1914 amalgamation, we had no choice. In 1959, we did have the choice of each region going it's own way, but the politicians choose to remain amalgamated.
Here is the article.

Aboki...But what you had was not just difficulties but atrocities, genocide and pogroms tied together with your 'lovely' independence.

Wow. I wonder why we never split the country. I think Greed has a lot to do with it. Both the Sardauna and Azikiwe felt they could rule the country so they wanted to keep the country intact.
I wonder what Awolowo thought of all this. I always wonder about the Yoruba mans lack of desire for an Oduduwa republic. ? They have one of the best sea ports in Nigeria and they have built up probably the best infrastructure in Nigeria. I wonder why they dont want their own country. Baffling
