This is in response to rumours that a Chinese national at Reddington Hospital has the Corona Virus. The patient does not have the virus.

#COVIDー19: REDDINGTON HOSPITAL PATIENT TESTS NEGATVE – LASG

The Lagos State Government (@followlasg) has said that the Chinese citizen who presented at the Reddington Hospital, Ikeja (@ReddingtonLagos) yesterday and suspected to have Corona virus has tested negative to the infection.

The commissioner of health, Professor Akin Abayomi (@ProfAkinAbayomi) who made this known through a press statement noted that the likelyhood of #COVIDー19 infection in this particular patient was very low & the conclusion of investigations & sophisticated testing confirms that there is no case of Corona Virus in Lagos as of now.

“I would like to reassure Lagosians that our vigilance levels are very high and we are putting more measures in place to safe guard the State”, @ProfAkinAbayomi said.

While giving details of the investigation, @ProfAkinAbayomi explained that the Ministry of Health's attention was drawn to a suspected case of Corona Virus at @ReddingtonLagos Hospital; a private health facility located at Ikeja.

“From our investigation, we gathered that a Chinese citizen who arrived in Nigeria from China 7 weeks ago presented at the Hospital yesterday complaining about fever”

"The hospital in keeping with the advisory we earlier issued, correctly maintained a high index of suspicion, isolated the patient and reported the case to the Lagos State Ministry of Health (@LSMOH)"

“We took up the case, transferred the patient to the State Isolation Unit at the Mainland hospital which is our specialised infectious disease hospital. His blood samples were taken to the Virology laboratory for analysis and it came out negative”, the Commissioner said.

@ProfAkinAbayomi appealed to citizens to refrain from posting unverified news that can cause unnecessary anxiety in community.

He urged citizens to disregard any information about #COVIDー19 that does not emanate from official communication channels of @LSMOH or his office.

And yet hundreds of people died from it in China that's far technologically advanced than us?

Just ordinary cough and catarrh you say, yet the whole world is on red alert for it. Being similar to regular cough and catarrh is in itself a problem. Imagine the common man not knowing when to get tested.

My point is, we are still barely surviving this government. We cannot accommodate another epidemy.

1.) Nigerian hospital lack the adequate facility to detect coronavirus

2.) Coronavirus incubation period is more than a month

3.) coronavirus spread without being diagnosed as been positive

That man should adequately be quarantined otherwise all the hospital staffs are already infected

1. Many hospitals even abroad lack the facilities to detect corona virus and the samples are usually sent to special centres for that. Same with ebola. There are also centers for that in Nigeria, for Lagos state , it is the IDH (infectious disease hospital) aka mainland hospital at Yaba


2. Incubation period is not more than a month. A simple google search would have shown that.
Go to the CDC website and confirm. Quarantine period is usually advised to be 2 weeks from last date of exposure, and not even one month.

The reddingnton man has been back from China since 7weeks ago, wayyy longer than the incubation / quarantine period. He probably has malaria. (Unless he has recently been with another friend who just came back from travel)

3. If he has been infected with corona virus and it's been up to 2-4 weeks, they will still be able to diagnose and confirm it in the laboratory.


To those who are panicking already, majority of those infected with the virus do not die. The recorded deaths are elderly individuals, the very young children and those with reduced immunity for one reason or another. Those are the most vulnerable groups. Their own immunity is usually lower than it should be.
If you are a young, fit person, your body should normally be able to fight it unless you've smoked away your immunity with cigarettes or drank it all away with excessive alcohol, or sexed it away with HIV.
