Clean-Up Committee Eases Traffic In Obalende, Clears Illegal Parks, Garages by BrandSpurNG: 5:07pm On Mar 02, 2020
The Special Committee on Clean-Up of Ikoyi and Victoria Island over the weekend took its campaign to restore sanity to Obalende as the operatives dislodged illegal parks, garages and vehicles operators as well as traders who converted the green areas and beneath Obalende bridge to bus parks.
Speaking on the exercise, Mr Ayo Williams, Director of Operations and leader of the enforcement team noted that operatives also eased traffic, as several commercial vehicles who parked on Obalende Road had their vehicles towed away under supervision by LASTMA.

Williams said the team also sealed up several shanties used as brothels and arrested many women of easy virtue who reside in the area, including individuals with questionable identity, stressing that the operation involving all the enforcement teams visited Odoo Street, Ojo Street, Obalende Road, Federal Secretariat Road and Keffi Street where illegal structures were dismantled. While affirming that all illegal structures that harboured miscreants and shanties were destroyed and the wreckage carted away by LAWMA trucks as the operation progressed, the Leader of the Team said some commercial vehicles were also impounded at a beautification space converted to a motor park, just as many street traders were evicted and their wares confiscated by KAI operatives in the team.
The Director disclosed that during the operations, which lasted several hours, a total of 42 people were arrested for various Environmental Offences and 38 vehicles of different types impounded, revealing that those arrested were charged and immediately prosecuted at the Lagos State Special Offences Mobile Court, which sat within the premises of the Transfer Loading Station in Sura, Lagos Island.

He emphasised that as the Clean-Up exercise continues, the team would secure all the cleared open spaces to prevent a return of the miscreants into Ikoyi and Victoria Island axis.

mY PROBLEM with most of these things our Government do is that.....They don't provide alternatives to those poor people....They don't give them enough time...No single human face to their approach..they always carry out this thing as if the masses are their enemy..With the enforcers ending up sharing their wares among themselves...

Every law enforcement drive here is never for the sake of enforcing the law but for the benefit of a selected few and the enforcers are all OUT TO STEAL, KILL AND DESTROY.....

In developed nations Government exist to help and work for the betterment of the people and society....

Here Government especially this APCSHIT works to punish the people..They are always looking for more ways to punish and further compound the sufferings of the ordinary man in the street....

Establishing more street beggars and armed robbers to the already existing numbers. Basically another dimension of failure.

Politics aside, those people and things should not be there in the first place. We've gotten accustomed to many wrong things that we develop certain sentiments towards them.
Like I said earlier, POLITICS ASIDE.

I don't think anybody enjoys selling items under harsh weather conditions..
I believe these people are only trying to feed themselves or provide for their families...
I feel very bad when ever i see such happens...

Nobody is punishing anybody. I'm not a fan of APC but what they're doing in Lagos is a step in the right direction. In any sane country, if you want to get a shop you get a traders permit and a good location from the local government instead of planting shanties all over the place that reduce property value and become eyesores.

Lagos state is one of 36 states and the smallest one.

The whole country cannot migrate to Lagos.

Lagos state government cannot accept responsibility to cater for all the destitutes in the country.

It cannot be argued that arriving in Lagos from Aba or Gusau today means immediate entitlement to be catered for by existing taxpayers.
Where is the money to pay for these "alternatives" going to come from?
Would you be willing to pay an "ALTERNATIVE TAX"?
Should government Tax the existing population to encourage further migration ?

The country has collectively rejected a special status for Lagos and must face the consequences

Why don't they tolerate this rubbish in Abuja?

What is good or bad fo Abuja is good or bad for Lagos

My view is Lagos should be for indigenes and people who have the means to look after themselves and pay tax,not destitutes
