It is because of people like you I refused to join the military. See how you're judging the case from two paragraphs and a 30 second video that explains next to nothing. I for find you and flog sense into your synapses.

As a parent, I use my hard earned money that I worked tirelessly for to buy a phone for my child so as to track him or her in this evil world we live in. That child defies school rules and takes it to school. The school finds it and asks my child to destroy it in front of the whole school under duress with a camera in front of her. I don't have this information but then I wake up to see the video on Nairaland frontpage, bros, people go die.

I think destruction of the phone is not the right call. The phones should have been seized for a couple of months, handed over to the parents and the parents made to promise that their ward will not do that again.

I think that will make the parents to create more interest in their child(ren). If the contents of the phones are revealed I believe it will b porn all over and different romantic messages to their various paedophile brothers and family friends

Why not sieze the phones and report them to their parents/guardians? The way we disrespect wealth in Nigeria is annoying.

I knew this school very well, bring phones to the premises wasn't allowed.. so she and her colleagues has violated the rules of the school and they need to pay for it.. do u know most of this girls jumped the sch fence to meet guys because of sex. And where's a rule, there will surely be a sin..

Alternatively they should have seized the phones until they graduated.

Some tertiary institutions don't even allow their students to use phone not to talk of secondary school. The only bad here is destruction of the phones, the way it is done is to seize the phone and give it back to their parents if they come for it or during the PTA meeting.

Let me cover my nose, that Italian man may be on this thread.

As long as it is in rule books of the school it is the right decision. There is no phone in the school prospectus and as such will be treated as the school wishes.

Good , in fact the teachers should flog those students

When I was serving, I caught my students watching blue films on there phone , the girls will be behind the toilet on phone calls with their boyfriends.

And what is wrong with that ?

This is wickedness, why not just seize the phone and invite the parent for questioning.

The teacher deserves to pay for it if I'm related to the student.

This is very on point.
It seems the school authorities think they are in a military camp.

Re: Akure Teacher Asks Student To Destroy Her Phone As Punishment (Photos, Video) by qanda: 1:53pm On Mar 03, 2020
How do I start...

1. I do not support the action of the 'offender' and support that punitive action was taken.

2. Breaking the phone is quite an extreme measure that may not serve as a deterrent (drawing from my boarding house experience at FGC Ugwolawo). Instructing a minor to break a phone is quite traumatic and I consider it a crime, 'Technology Crime and Abuse'. I understand that it is 'property crime to break someone else's cell phone'.

3. An effective measure could be seizing the phone and returning it to the child's parent at the end of his/her time at the college. A strong measure can also include suspending the minor for 1-2 weeks

4. I can bet that the phone was bought by the Child's parent. It can be assumed (except proved otherwise) that the child's parents were not aware that their child took the phone to school. Technically, the child is not the owner of the phone.

5. In my opinion, with the support and supervision of a schools management, senior secondary students should be allowed to use purpose-built internet-enabled devices for learning and research purposes. The knowledge available online is more than the combined knowledge of any schools workforce.

6. Secondary Schools should have wireless internet infrastructure to support students and staff learning. There are a handful of mobile technology-driven innovation/solution built for secondary school students, how do Federal Government College students benefit?

7. We live in an ICT age, kids are exposed to tech-driven devices at home. How do our Federal Government Colleges promote technology? Do they teach coding? Can the use of blackboard, whiteboards be supplemented with a purpose-built internet device?

7. To conclude, I have never been a supporter of extreme measures. I was raised by a No-Nonsense dad whose knock and slap can reset a brain. I preferred my mum's softer yet effective approach.

I know you typed before you think. A right thinking man will go to the school since use of phone is crime to explain why his child needs to use a phone. The hard earned money you use to get a phone for your child is another parent's money for feeding their bingo in a day and yet their child is without a phone.
