Even voting sef.
The minimum requirement to vote should be set as well. We have millions of illiterates making the wrong choice for the country.
For me, your proposition should be prioritized over the lawmaker's.

Na those illiterates up north make thunder strike for thesame place two times for this country even when the Bible says "affliction shall not rise a second time" according to Nahum 1:9

If you stop those dolts, no semi literate being without a verifiable education would be elected by literates to lead.

They should have some form of education to be able to understand the issues. At the moment, they just collect #500 and vote who they are told to vote for.
#500 is big sef, some sold theirs with just #50 dry meat in some states, God punish poverty.

The fact Jonathan with a PhD in Zoology or whatever, is a clueless buffoon, does not mean every PhD holder is the same.
Having a sound education (which is different from just passing through school like Jonathan did), is a starting point in an enlightened mind.
Would you compare a Durotoye, a Moghalu or a Sowore with Jonathan or the Jibrin we have in Aso Rock today, in all spehres of human endeavor?

If not for the "force of the gun", who be Buhari?
if not that you ae ignorant.. you would know Buhari went a military school which was equivalent of nce certificate then and went to military schools in India and war college in United States equivalent of msc but ur head is block to reason well...

Those made such constitution without tagging a clear-cut educational qualification to it knew where there strengths and weaknesses lie.

If the bill is passed, we will not see the likes of Buhari again.

Benjamin Mzondu, a member of the house of representatives from Benue state, has introduced a bill seeking to raise the academic qualification for election into the office of the president.

The constitution alteration bill on ‘educational qualification for certain political offices’ passed first reading at the house’ plenary session on Thursday.

Mzondu told TheCable on Friday that the piece of proposed legislation seeks to provide a post-secondary school qualification for the office of the president and that of governor.

The lawmaker, who represents Makurdi/Guma federal constituency, said the amendment is being made to fill in the gap in the constitution regarding academic qualifications.

Section 131 (chapter VI) of the constitution states that a person may be qualified for election into the office of the president if among others things, “they have been educated up to at least school certificate level or its equivalent”.

“The constitution does not give an explicit qualification for the office of president,” Mzondu told TheCable.

“We want to define it properly. If it is secondary, it is; if it is university, it is. It is seeking to fill the gap.

“I am proposing (in the bill) that the president should have at least a diploma after secondary education. There should be a post-secondary school education that should be added.”

This jackass is following the useless path the so-called founding fathers showed us. Everything should start and end with formal western education. The issue remains with educated electorate. I have no issue with jackass called Buhari but the moronic electorates who voted him into power. As much as I know Nigeria, there is a dumbass with Ph.D in Nigeria who could be worse than dumbass from Daura in Katsina State.

There's no need for a minimum educational qualification.

So if Zuckerberg was a Nigerian, he should not be allowed to contest for election because he has no degree?

This is an unnecessary agitation. There are lots of lecturers who are dull and just a few steps above idiocy yet they have a PhD, go figure.
you de mind them Bill Gates has no degree despite the brain he got... with the comments I see here it's clear most Nigerians are not even educated... education is beyond getting a degree it's multifaceted... some are quick to say pmb no go school a man who went to military academy kaduna 2 and half years which was equivalent of Nce certificate then...
went to military school again In India, then war college In the United States which is equivalent of masters degree.... leadership entails a lot in character which plenty despite education lacks...

This should have been done in the 8th Senate so Saraki can approve. Buhari would not have been able to contest. As usual, they will make this one hard but if we want to move forward, we need out best brains. We need respectable qualifications. A School Cert holder should never be President. Make the office respectable small abeg.

A step in the right direction, it is a national disgrace to all the citizens to say our president is holding a seorn affidavit as certificate. The samething my errand boy in the office is using to work.

I cannot standand listen to bubu under in logic. It would have been understable if je came in through a coup detat in that case we all know he used force.

No wonder the kept on rejecting him until he finally resorted to threat and violence. Living on government all his life. Not sure he ever bought a car with his money, yet he couldn't go to school and develop himself.
Now he is hiding he cant even come in public and talk,
not to talk of addressing the people. NEVER AGAIN
