The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says Sunday’s explosion which occurred at Abule Ado, Trade Fair axis of Lagos State was not caused by a disruption of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) oil pipeline.

Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, Acting Coordinator, Lagos Territorial Office, NEMA, made the clarification in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Farinloye said that contrary to information earlier put out on the social media, the explosion which occurred at about 9a.m. was unconnected to pipeline vandalism.

“From the information given by officials of the Lagos State Fire Service who are currently on ground, the implosion is not connected to pipeline but might have occurred in a factory located in the Abule Ado area.

“Emergency responders are on ground while others are still on their way to the scene. The situation is under control and we hope to get more information soon to ascertain its cause,” he said.

Farinloye said the NNPC had shutdown the pipeline passing through the area as a precautionary measure after the oil company was notified of the incident.

He also confirmed that several buildings were affected by the explosion which was heard several kilometers away in many parts of the state including Amuwo Odofin, Ijegun, and Agege.

So sad about today's incident. Our government has to do more regarding fire services in the country. I won't be surprised if there were no fires fighters at the location for hours.

If the explosion is not due to pipeline vandalism, then its caused by what?

Is the company in question stockpiling explosive materials or its a fertilizer manufacturing company that deals with chemicals that are highly inflammable?

This is also a result of impunity and rot in our planning system. companies that deals with highly explosive chemicals are not supposed to be sited within the city. But after the government officials have been paid thousands of naira, they neglect their paid responsibilities at the expense of the lives and properties of the poor masses.

Anyways, hope they are not buhari's kinsmen; coz bombing and getting married to underaged is all they know. sincerely, hoping its pipeline explosion coz mere thinking that is can be these evil men from north east can be scary.

If someone explains Nigeria to you and you understand, he did not explain it well.

Is Nigeria the only oil exporting country? Why other major oil producer don't experience this same shit with the same frequency?

It wasn't vandalism that caused the pipeline explosion, then what caused it?

You mentioned a factory in the area. Was it the factory that exploded, or it just caused the pipeline explosion?

We take a lot of risks in Nigeria. Human activities along pipelines and powerlines are meant to be kept at a safe recommended distance. Trust me people of this country we build in such space.
My prayers are with the victims!

This is good to know, and also, efforts must be intensified to know the remote cause of the explosion, to avoid future occurrence

I heard the loud bang this morning

But if this is 'unconnected to vandalism'

And "the implosion is not connected to pipeline but might have occurred in a factory located in the Abule Ado area."

Then why did

"Farinloye said the NNPC had shutdown the pipeline passing through the area as a precautionary measure after the oil company was notified of the incident."

I don't know or this information is not complete.
