The President of the Nigerian senate, Ahmed Lawan has called on the Nigerian government to ramp up efforts to provide testing facilities across the country as part of the necessary frame work to provide effective screening for Covid19.


With a total of 8 cases now confirmed in Nigeria, the Senate President opines that the Federal government needs to do more to make testing more available and accessible in different parts of the country.

While speaking at the plenary today, he said

“There is need for federal government to do a little more….that is in the area of testing Centres”

“There is at the moment no testing Centre in the entire southeast” he said.

He went further to say

“In the entire north there is no testing center. Eventhough there is a testing center in Abuja, Abuja is federal capital territory”

“The entire north cannot have no testing Centre in this kind of situation “


“When you have this kind of situation, you need to take very immediate action to test and confirm” he said.

There are about 24 states in the entire north and southeast of Nigeria with no standard testing center.

It would be recalled that the Senate Also called on the federal government to shut Nigeria borders until 13 high risk countries were banned today.

COVID 19 started back in November 2019, we have had more than 4 months to prepare, but no its business as usual until the virus comes knocking on your door step.

FG should provide the mentioned states with the testing centres ASAP.

Respective state government should support the FG in the way they can too. Not everything should be left to the FG.

But d nation and it's useless Minister kept making noise for months about how prepared dey are for the Outbreak

South East always dey compete with the North in backwardness

And the minister of health was claiming we are so prepared......it's time to prove himself right.
